The Opportunity
Reporting to Senior Sales Leadership, the Key Account Manager is responsible for leading strategic growth and commercial performance across major national retail accounts, including Loblaws and Walmart.
This role is accountable for developing and executing comprehensive account strategies that drive sales growth, profitability, market share, customer satisfaction, and long-term business partnerships. The Key Account Manager will serve as a trusted strategic partner to key customers, developing strong relationships with decision-makers and leveraging market intelligence, data, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver business objectives.
The Key Account Manager partners closely with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Product Development, and other internal stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of customer strategies and commercial plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive strategic account plans for key national accounts, including Loblaws and Walmart, designed to drive sales growth, profitability, distribution, and market share.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customer decision-makers, serving as a trusted advisor and primary commercial point of contact.
- Develop a deep understanding of customer strategies, business priorities, category dynamics, shopper behaviour, and organizational structures to identify opportunities for growth.
- Conduct market, category, customer, and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends, customer needs, risks, and opportunities, translating insights into actionable account strategies.
- Lead high-level customer negotiations, including pricing, promotions, distribution, trade programs, and commercial agreements, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes aligned with Johnvince Foods’ objectives.
- Develop and implement promotional strategies, pricing models, trade programs, and customer-specific initiatives that maximize value for both Johnvince Foods and its customers.
- Monitor account performance, sales trends, profitability, promotional effectiveness, and other key performance indicators, providing detailed reporting and actionable recommendations to senior management.
- Maintain full accountability for account budgets, forecasts, business plans, revenue targets, and financial objectives.
- Prepare accurate sales forecasts and business projections, identifying opportunities and risks and working with internal teams to ensure alignment with customer requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Product Development, and other cross-functional teams to deliver seamless execution of account plans.
- Translate customer needs and market insights into actionable internal priorities, ensuring customer commitments are effectively communicated and executed across the organization.
- Identify opportunities to expand distribution, introduce new products, strengthen existing programs, and increase overall customer and category value.
- Support the development and execution of customer presentations, business reviews, annual planning meetings, and other strategic customer engagements.
- Track competitive activity, market conditions, pricing, promotions, and category developments to maintain a strong understanding of the retail landscape.
- Resolve customer issues and commercial challenges proactively, coordinating with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and effective solutions.
- Ensure customer commitments, commercial agreements, pricing, promotional programs, and account requirements are accurately documented and executed.
- Partner with internal teams to support new product launches, product changes, promotional initiatives, and customer-specific programs.
- Develop and maintain accurate customer reporting, sales analysis, forecasts, and business planning documentation.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in account management processes, customer service, sales performance, and commercial execution.
- Represent Johnvince Foods professionally in all customer interactions while reinforcing the company’s commitment to quality, innovation, service, and partnership.
- Perform other duties and commercial projects as assigned.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Sales, Business, Marketing, or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive sales and account management experience, ideally within the consumer-packaged goods (CPG), food, or retail industry.
- Proven track record of delivering sales growth, profitability, and commercial results within a fast-paced and competitive market.
- Experience managing major national retail accounts, ideally including Loblaws, Walmart, or similar large-format Canadian retailers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic account plans and translate customer strategies into measurable business results.
- Exceptional negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to build consensus and drive mutually beneficial outcomes with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, revenue management, pricing, promotional planning, and profitability analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales, market, customer, and category data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
- Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior customer stakeholders and key decision-makers.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts, priorities, deadlines, and initiatives simultaneously.
- A collaborative mindset, coupled with the ability to think strategically, make data-driven decisions, and operate with a high degree of ownership.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer excellence, continuous improvement, commercial performance, and long-term relationship building.
