JOB SUMMARY
The Service Technician is responsible for providing technical support for coffee equipment and ensuring reliable delivery of products when required. This role ensures customers receive consistent, high-quality service and reliable equipment performance.
Under the supervision of the Branch Manager, the duties and responsibilities of the Service Technician include, but are not limited to, the following:
Equipment Service & Repair
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled service activities, including emergency service calls, preventive maintenance, installations, and equipment removals at customer locations;
- Refurbishes, repairs, and tests coffee equipment for use at customer sites to ensure proper functionality before replacement;
- Completes all service calls and related paperwork and service records in an accurate and timely manner, including service orders, parts inventory and product disbursement sheets in accordance with company policies and procedures;
- Understands the specifications, products, and service requirements for all accounts, and plans for service calls accordingly;
- Maintains and cleans the service area;
- Receives, organizes, and maintains parts for equipment, manages parts inventory for assigned service vehicle and inventory parts on a monthly basis; and
- Ensures that assigned service vehicle undergoes routine maintenance as needed.
Customer Support
- Serves as the primary point of contact during service visits, responding to customer inquiries with professionalism and clarity;
- Builds and maintain positive relationships with customer contacts and decision-makers; and
- Provides training to customers on the safe and proper use of equipment, responds to customer inquiries about equipment, and relays other customer inquiries and needs to the appropriate First Choice staff in a timely manner.
Route Support
- Safely operates company-owned vehicles to deliver products to customer locations and ensures that assigned service vehicle undergoes routine maintenance as needed; and
- Provides delivery support by covering routes during vacation, extended leave, or other absences of regular branch delivery drivers, performs other deliveries as needed.
Benched Equipment Duties
- Performs detailed diagnostics, repairs, and testing of equipment brought back to the warehouse;
- Dissembles, cleans, and rebuilds benched machines; and
- Tests repaired equipment to ensure proper functionality.
Other
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license for with a clean driver’s abstract;
- Minimum two (2) to three (3) years of experience in a field service, technical support, or equipment repair role, ideally within coffee, beverage or food service industries;
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics; and
- Customer service experience with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Usual and customary methods of performing job functions require: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
- Must be able to safely operate a vans and trucks.
- Repeatedly lift and carry coffee and bottle water products weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
- Occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to one hundred and twenty-five (125) pounds, with assistance.
- Drive thirty (30) to one hundred (100) kilometers per day.
- Climb in and out of delivery vehicle multiple times per day.
- Load and unload thirty (30) to thirty-five (35) pound hand cart from delivery vehicle at approximately 16-20 customer sites per day.
- Use hand cart to move products and equipment from delivery vehicle into customer facility.
- Job generally requires twenty (20%) percent sitting and/or driving, sixty (60%) percent walking, and twenty (20%) percent standing daily.
- Able to work outdoors in various types of weather.
TRAVEL
- Frequent local travel is required to service coffee equipment and to deliver products to customers’ place of business.
