The Pike School, an independent elementary and middle school in Andover, MA, serves approximately 415 students in grades pre-kindergarten through nine.

    The Pike School is seeking a Student Support Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year to join the Student Support Team. The ideal candidate will have Upper Elementary (4th/5th grade) teaching experience. This role includes classroom teaching, direct instruction for students in one on one and small group settings, and push in classroom support. The Pike School culture embraces lifelong learning, which includes constant reflection on and evaluation of practices, materials, and pedagogy. Collaboration and effective communication are essential skills for this position, as are a sense of humor and joy for working with students in this age group.

    Core Responsibilities:

  • Designing, planning, and delivering scaffolded, direct instruction for students of various profiles in grades 4 and 5 in small groups and 1:1 settings
  • Providing push-in classroom support for students in grades 4 and 5
  • Teaching the 5th grade Study Skills Course where students explore routines, assessment prep, writing practice, time management, and what it means to be a more independent student over time.
  • Applying appropriate accommodations and modifications from diagnostic reports, IEPs, or 504 Plans for students with documented learning profiles and with students in need of intervention
  • Co-planning and consultation with classroom teachers, counselors, specialists, and administrators to meet the needs of shared students through thoughtful communication and participation in grade-level team meetings
  • Assessing, documenting, and communicating effectively about academic progress and social- emotional development to both the teaching team and parents/caregivers
  • Providing benchmarking, screening, and assessment as needed
  • Desired Qualities and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree in special education, teaching licensure in moderate special education, and a minimum of 3 years of experience are preferred
  • A passion for working with students in this age group (grades 4 and 5) and a record of outstanding direct small group and 1:1 instruction in reading, writing, math, and executive function goals
  • Willingness and ability to support other teachers in delivering differentiated instruction, including meeting the needs of students with documented learning profiles.
  • High emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication skills and ability to develop positive working relationships with all constituencies, including students, parents/caregivers, faculty, and administration
  • Desire to work in a dynamic independent school as a team player, eagerly assuming necessary roles, and devoting the time required to model excellence in job performance
