Adjunct Faculty - Threshold: Disability Community and Activism; Fall Semester 2026; In-person, On-campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts at Lesley University

Lesley University's Threshold Program is seeking a highly qualified adjunct faculty member to teach: Disability and Community Activism; Fall Semester 2026; In-person, On-Campus. The two sections available are:

• Wednesdays, 11:10 a.m. – 12:25 p.m.

• Wednesdays, 12:55 p.m. – 2:10 p.m.

Candidates must also be available to participate in virtual program staff meetings on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Course Description:

This course introduces first-year students in the Threshold Program to the history of disability rights and community activism in the United States. Students examine the disability rights movement, key federal disability legislation, disability identity and pride, and the contributions of influential disability advocates. Through engagement with diverse perspectives, community organizations, and advocacy initiatives, students explore opportunities for individual and collective action while developing an understanding of the resources and networks that support self-advocacy, community participation, and civic engagement.

A successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a closely related field (required); Master's degree (preferred)

• Experience working with children or adults with disabilities in educational settings

• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver curriculum that supports students with diverse learning needs

• Commitment to student-centered, inclusive, equitable, and accessible teaching practices

• Experience using instructional technology to support teaching and student learning

• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
