Job Description

N Street Village is seeking a dynamic, solutions-oriented, and people-centered People Operations Generalist to support the day-to-day operations of the People Operations department. This role is critical to maintaining strong employee lifecycle processes, organizational compliance, talent acquisition, employee relations, and workforce support.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and passionate about building systems that strengthen employee experience while ensuring compliance and operational excellence. This position will play a key role in supporting recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, leave management, employee relations, and performance processes across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs and identify qualified candidates.
  • Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract diverse talent.
  • Conduct background checks, pre-employment screenings, and employment eligibility verifications.
  • Facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding processes.
Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Support employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and terminations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, District of Columbia, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Assist with policy administration and recommend updates aligned with best practices and legal requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with benefits regulations, including COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, ERISA, and Workers’
Compensation

  • Partner with internal stakeholders on employee compliance requirements and audits.
  • Benefits, Leave, & Payroll Support
  • Administer employee benefits programs, leave of absence processes, and time and attendance management.
  • Support the Finance department with payroll preparation, audits, and related employee data management.
  • Serve as a resource to employees regarding benefits, leave, and payroll inquiries.
Performance & Employee Engagement

  • Support performance management initiatives, employee recognition efforts, and professional development programs.
  • Assist in strengthening employee engagement, morale, and organizational culture initiatives.
  • Participate in staff recognition and retention strategies that align with organizational goals.
Operational Excellence

  • Maintain accurate personnel records and People Operations documentation.
  • Stay informed on HR trends, compliance updates, and emerging technologies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across People Operations systems and workflows.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive Human Resources or People Operations experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-cycle recruitment experience.
  • Experience administering employee benefits, leave programs, and employee relations processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and District of Columbia employment laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, ERISA, and Workers’ Compensation.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) certification preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit, human services, or mission-driven organizations preferred.
  • Experience supporting trauma-informed workplaces or vulnerable populations preferred.
Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel locally throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia for job fairs, recruiting events, and organizational needs.
Compensation

  • Salary is commensurate with experience. The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000 annually.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds in support of daily office and People Operations functions. The People Operations Generalist must be able to move throughout multiple program sites, support onboarding activities, maintain physical personnel files, and assist with organizational events as needed.

This role operates in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment serving women experiencing homelessness, trauma, behavioral health challenges, and housing instability. The position may involve exposure to high-stress situations, confidential employee matters, and crisis-related personnel issues.

The employee must be able to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, respond professionally to sensitive matters, and adapt to changing organizational priorities. Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday support may be required for hiring events, employee engagement activities, or emergency operational needs.
