Full Time Contract EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY HR Generalist - 6 Month Contract – Human Resources Department Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 (based on experience) |
JOB SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist is essential in supporting various HR functions and will serve as a trusted point of contact for employees and management, ensuring that HR operations run smoothly and that employees have a positive, compliant, and engaging work environment.
They will encompass a blend of administrative support and HR expertise, supporting various HR processes including employee relations, talent acquisition, record-keeping, and policy implementation.
POSITION DUTIES:
HR Support and Administration
- Handle employee relations issues by providing guidance and support to employees and management with respect to the HR policies, and interpretation and compliance with Canadian Labour Code.
- Administrate HRIS and ensure accuracy.
- Participate in HR process development, professional development, and team building.
- Prepare reports and general correspondence as requested.
- Maintain, update, and modify HR databases as required.
- Proactively identifying improvement opportunities within HR systems and processes.
- Support management with performance issues through coaching and development plans.
- Assist in developing HR policies and procedures that align with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with management on project management initiatives related to HR functions.
- Send employee communication, which includes new hire announcements, promotions, staffing announcements, etc.
- Represent the HR department at job fairs.
Employee Lifecycle
Ensure that the employee journey starts from the moment they join Sagamok until the time they leave, by following the 7 stages of the employee lifecycle.

- Exiting employees
- Help facilitate the onboarding process; this involves submitting and processing documentation, creating new employee files, coordinating orientation, and supporting training efforts.
- Draft employee letters, agreements, and other documentation including job descriptions.
- Following the offboarding process, including updating key stakeholders, and actioning the offboarding workflow.
- Assist in and facilitate a succession management strategy with support from senior management.
- Support management in conducting performance reviews and setting employee goals.
- Collaborate and participate in improvement efforts to promote a positive employee experience.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of Anishnawbek culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Is subject to six months’ probation.
- Clear Criminal Records Check (CPIC) that is valid within 6 months.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma/certificate in Human Resources, Business.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the Human Resources field.
- Certified Human Resource Professional certification preferred.
- Knowledge of federal labour standards, the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Occupational Health and Safety section of the Canada Labour Code.
- Proficiency working with databases, and professional networks.
- Proficiency in documenting processes and keeping up with industry trends.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
