Position Description:
Job Title: Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper
Position Overview
The Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient billing and collections processes for tenant accounts. This position is responsible for generating and reviewing monthly billing statements, reconciling accounts, processing payments, and maintaining compliance with internal control procedures. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to resolve discrepancies to support smooth financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Generate and issue monthly rent charges and invoices to tenants.
Calculate, bill, and record utility charges (e.g., electricity, water, and other applicable services).
Review and process LOCKBOX payments and ensure accurate posting.
Prepare and issue additional billings (e.g., late fees, holdover rent, miscellaneous charges) as applicable.
Reconcile and prepare monthly rent variance reports to ensure accuracy of recurring charges.
Perform account reconciliations related to tenant move-outs, lease amendments, or occupancy changes.
Manage and process security deposits in tenant ledgers in accordance with policies and legal requirements.
Apply payments and receipts accurately within the MDS system.
Respond to tenant and owner inquiries regarding billing statements, ledgers, and account activity in a professional and timely manner.
Review, scan, and deposit checks received in office through appropriate banking channels.
Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies to maintain data integrity.
Support month-end and year-end close processes as needed.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and industry best practices.
Collaborate with the Accounting and Property Management teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
2+ years of experience in accounts receivable, billing, or property management accounting.
Proficiency with accounting software; experience with MDS strongly preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interface with tenants, owners, and internal teams.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of real estate accounting practices is a plus.
