JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will deliver essential HR services to enhance the employee experience across the School. Focused on recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and HR administration, this role ensures that day-to-day HR processes run smoothly, enabling the organization to attract and retain top talent. The HR Generalist will maintain accurate records, assist with employee programs, and provide responsive support to both staff and managers.
Given the dynamic and collaborative nature of our school environment, this role is an on-site position requiring to be in the office five days a week. Candidates should be prepared to contribute actively to this in-person, community-focused environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the full recruitment cycle by drafting job postings, pre-screening candidates, conducting interviews, completing reference checks, and preparing employment offers
Collaborate with hiring managers to support the onboarding process, ensuring a seamless experience for new hires
Organize and maintain HR databases, documentation, and files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
Assist with the administration of the Employee Growth and Development program to support the program effectiveness
Support the development, tracking, and reporting of HR metrics, providing insights into areas such as turnover, time-to-fill, training participation, absenteeism, and diversity
Organize and administer the employee recognition program and end of year recognition
Stay informed on employment legislation trends and changes, researching and monitoring potential impacts on policies and practices
Serve as a point of contact for staff, responding to employee requests and inquiries
Represent the organization at career fairs, industry events, and networking opportunities to promote the The York School brand and attract top talent
Assist the HR team with various support tasks, such as preparing employment and verification letters, scheduling meetings, booking boardrooms, managing calendars, and coordinating travel arrangements
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or a combination of equivalent education and related professional experience
CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation required
3+ years of human resources experience, with prior experience in the education sector considered an asset
Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now HRIS
Proven ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively at all levels within the organization
In-depth knowledge of HR practices, trends, and employment legislation
Ability to handle sensitive matters with strict confidentiality
Excellent communication and consultative skills
Strong organizational and planning abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Strong technology skills, particularly with Google Workspace
