Job Description

Employee Relations Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Employee Relations Specialist based in Canada.

This role plays a critical part in shaping a fair, respectful, and compliant workplace experience across a large, multi-location organization operating in North America. You will lead complex employee relations matters, including workplace investigations, accommodations, and responses to legal claims, ensuring consistency, fairness, and compliance with employment legislation. Acting as a trusted advisor to field leadership teams, you will help resolve sensitive issues while reducing organizational risk and strengthening workplace culture. The position is remote, with a focus on Eastern Canada, and requires strong bilingual communication skills in English and French. You will also analyze case trends, deliver training, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This is a high-impact role suited for someone who thrives in structured, fast-paced, and mission-driven environments.

Accountabilities:
  • Manage end-to-end employee relations cases, including workplace complaints such as harassment, discrimination, and violence, ensuring timely intake, investigation, and resolution.
  • Conduct fair, objective, and legally sound investigations, maintaining accurate and audit-ready documentation in case management systems.
  • Lead and support the interactive accommodation process, ensuring compliance with applicable human rights and employment legislation.
  • Partner with legal and operational leaders to assess and respond to external legal claims and employment-related disputes.
  • Identify patterns and systemic risks through case analysis and escalate concerns to improve organizational practices.
  • Deliver training, coaching, and guidance to managers to strengthen employee relations capability and compliance awareness.
  • Produce regular reports and insights on case trends, risks, and improvement opportunities for internal stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • 3–5+ years of experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, accommodations, or a related HR function in a multi-site organization.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law frameworks in Canada and familiarity with U.S. regulations considered an asset.
  • Proven experience handling sensitive, complex, and confidential workplace matters with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent bilingual communication skills in English and French (written and spoken) are required.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess evidence and make defensible recommendations.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment with a high level of accountability.
  • Experience using case management systems and digital tools, including AI-enabled tools, is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional HR certification (CPHR, SPHR, or PHR) is considered an advantage.
Benefits:
  • Salary range: $77,193 – $114,247 (CAD), depending on experience
  • Comprehensive health and extended benefits plan for eligible employees
  • Company-paid life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance
  • Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with employer matching contributions
  • Paid time off for rest, personal interests, and wellbeing
  • Access to mental health and wellness support services
  • Full onboarding and structured training from day one
  • Continuous learning opportunities through an in-house learning platform and development programs
  • Remote work flexibility within Canada (with a focus on Eastern regions).
