Position Summary

Cherry County Hospital & Clinic is seeking an experienced and dedicated Clinical Director of Nursing to lead our nursing team and oversee the daily operations of our nursing unit. As the Clinical Director, you will ensure that our nursing services meet the highest standards of care and that all resources are in place to provide exceptional patient care. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a culture of excellence through strategic planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling the delivery of nursing services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides for development and implementation of a nursing care plan, incorporating input from all disciplines in the patient’s care
  • Coordinates and equalizes staffing for optimum utilization of staff time and duties
  • Formulates departmental procedures and assists with development of departmental policies
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Oversees an annual inventory for Nursing Service
  • Analyzes Nursing Services as rendered to improve quality of care
  • Evaluates nursing needs of each patient on a continuing basis and assists in determining the nursing care to be given
  • Provides direct nursing care by performing nursing procedures following hospital policy and procedures to ensure patient safety, respond effectively in emergency situations, acting as the patients advocate
  • Continually assesses patient status according to data collected, i.e., signs and symptoms, abnormal diagnostic data, health education, emotional and spiritual needs
  • Works efficiently with physicians and assists them in patient care, emergency room, labor and delivery
  • Formulates oral and written documentation of patients’ condition
  • Acts as liaison between patients, physicians, and personnel from other departments
  • Is available to make administrative decisions in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer
  • Formulates oral and written documentation of patients’ condition
  • Assists in patient teaching and discharge planning
  • Assists in planning education of nursing team members
  • Assists in interviewing and hiring of nursing unit team members
  • Provides feedback, coaching and discipline of team members as needed in accordance to policies
  • Assists in training of new personnel
  • Assists with evaluation of work performance of team members
  • Assists with adoption of new initiatives and evaluates effectiveness of implementation of new or changed practices
  • Instructs professional and nonprofessional team members through conferences and examples
  • Participates in at least 90% of the continuing education programs on a yearly basis
  • Attends monthly staff meetings; may be required to lead meetings in conjunction with, or in the absence of, the CNO
  • Supervises ordering of supplies for department on a weekly basis or more often if needed
  • Participates as needed in interdepartmental committee work
  • Participates in continuing education programs
  • Ensures the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records is maintained
  • Knowledgeable of and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures
  • Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned by CNO or CEO

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Extensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice and their application in normal and unusual situations
  • Ability to make sound judgements and decisions concerning nursing care
  • Ability to plan for and evaluate total nursing care
  • Recognizes proper channels of communication
  • Knowledge of physical organization and the hospital, as well as the administrative objectives, policies, procedures, and their implementation
  • Understands the legal aspects of nursing
  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality regarding hospital services

  • Keeps abreast of new trends and developments in the field of nursing, infection control and preventive health issues

  • Must be knowledgeable of state and federal confidentiality laws, including but not limited to HIPAA, and be familiar with and follow all policies, procedures and instructions regarding the privacy and security of protected health information applicable to the position

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Work may be physically and emotionally demanding, involves lifting and positioning patients
  • Environment requires working in close proximity with others in a clean favorable area
  • Requires regular working hours with possibility of overtime
  • Dexterity is needed to operate equipment, give injections and other tasks as required to complete patient care needs
  • Employee must be physically and mentally able to meet patient needs in an expedient and efficient manner
  • Must be agile, able to move careful around patients and equipment with ease
  • Job regularly involves the potential for exposure to hazardous material such as contaminated body fluids
  • Repetitive use of hands, arms, and eyes, which could result in strain
  • Must possess the knowledge and insight to comply with universal precautions and hospital policies and procedures

Requirements:

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Must be a full time, direct (not contract) employee of the facility
  • Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing, minimum Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (Fed. Reg.) in Nebraska
  • Full time means this position is available to work in the hospital as a Registered Nurse on the unit
  • Minimum of 3 years’ current experience in clinical nursing (Fed. Reg.), Medical-Surgical nursing with emergency and obstetrical nursing experience
  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience in providing nursing leadership (charge, team lead, etc.)
  • Basic Life Support certification required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required
  • TNCC and PALS required
  • NRP required within 6 months
  • Have or be willing to become certified in one nursing area within 12 months of hire
