GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Rural Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for the planning, provision, and allocation of functional resources necessary to carry out the day-to-day operations of the Nursing & Support Services. These responsibilities are accomplished by establishing appropriate performance standards, qualifications and expectations. Responsible for the proper planning and allocation of resources under their control to include the preparation and monitoring of the annual operating budget and objectives consistent with Saunders Medical Center’s strategic plan. All duties are performed consistent with Saunders Medical Center’s standards and behaviors.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Participates in and/or leads meetings, committees, strategic planning and lean projects as assigned.
3. Serves as Service Excellence champion including implementation, competencies, and hardwiring of service excellence initiatives.
4. *Oversees formulations of division goals and objectives, plans and programs in alignment with the overall Medical Center goals and objectives, plans and programs; ensures plans and programs are properly executed and an effective feedback process is utilized which communicates the overall condition and trends in each area and all important activities affecting them.
5. *Oversees performance standards/metrics for each of the departments within the division and evaluates the performance against the standards; coaches and assists the managers in improving their planning and performance.
6. *Ensures consistent leadership among division managers and ensures unification within the division. Promotes effective communication, collaboration, quality, and efficiency between departments and managers within and outside the division.
7. *Provides leadership and oversight in service line growth and development in each department of the division.
8. *Oversees the departmental budgetary procedure to ensure proper operational and capital planning; appropriate and efficient use of resources; and consistent compliance to budgetary and fiscal controls.
9. *Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, coaching, mentoring, retaining and evaluating managers including professional development of the division managers.
10. Keeps informed of current issues including new procedures, developments, and innovation. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
11. Performs service excellence initiatives such as: AIDET, Key Words, Managing Up, 10/5 Rule, and Service Recovery when applicable.
12. Performs Evidence Based Leadership Practices including; LEM goals, 90 day action plans, staff development, LDI participation and linkage grid assignment completion, utilizing the department meeting model, reward and recognition programs, thank you notes, performance evaluations and H/M/L conversations, and rounding on team members and patients (if applicable).
13. *Responsible for overall physician satisfaction results in the Nursing & Support Services departments. Works with and through others to get positive organizational results.
14. *Responsible for the overall quality of care delivered to patients and works collaboratively with the Director of Quality and Risk to implement, execute, and follow-up on initiatives within the overall Medical Center Quality Plan.
15. *Responsible for the overall employee satisfaction results of the Nursing & Support Service departments. Works with and through others to get positive organizational results.
16. *Responsible for the overall patient satisfaction results of the Nursing & Support Service departments. Works with and through others to get positive organizational results.
17. *Works collaboratively with the ED Medical Director in the obtaining and maintaining trauma designation.
18. *Works collaboratively with the Chief of Medical Staff on patient protocols, quality measures, and clinical teamwork.
19. *Conducts quarterly provider rounding.
20. *Conducts or ensures daily nurse leader rounding on all patients.
21. *Responsible for a robust communication plan for all staff including monthly shift meetings, bedside shift report, physician – nursing communication, etc. to support effective and up-t0-date communication.
22. Ensures teamwork between day and night shift, creating desired shift-to-shift teamwork and care consistency.
23. *Responsible for meeting all CAH guidelines and regulations.
24. Responsive to staff, providers, and patients’ needs and opportunities.
25. *Proactively coordinates Nursing Services schedule to maximize resource utilization.
26. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited professional baccalaureate-nursing program required. Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Nebraska required. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience within a medical center required.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within one (1) year of hire required.
