This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst based in Canada.
This role plays a key part in a large-scale digital and regulatory transformation initiative focused on modernizing how environmental and natural resource data is collected, managed, and leveraged across government systems. You will be responsible for turning complex, high-volume data into clear, actionable insights that support compliance, monitoring, and strategic decision-making. The environment is highly data-driven and evolving, with strong emphasis on modern BI platforms, cloud data ecosystems, and enterprise analytics maturity. You will design and deliver dashboards, reporting solutions, and data models that enable stakeholders to understand performance and regulatory outcomes in real time. The role requires close collaboration with business users, data engineers, and architects to translate evolving needs into scalable analytics solutions. You will contribute directly to improving transparency, operational efficiency, and regulatory oversight through high-quality business intelligence. As the program expands, your work may extend to broader enterprise analytics initiatives beyond the core regulatory platform.
- Design and develop advanced Power BI dashboards, scorecards, and interactive visual analytics to support regulatory and operational decision-making.
- Build and maintain scalable data models using Power BI, DAX, and Power Query (M language).
- Develop and optimize ETL processes and integrate data from Azure-based platforms and on-premise databases.
- Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to manage data pipelines, semantic models, and reporting layers.
- Gather and translate business requirements and KPIs into structured BI solutions and reporting frameworks.
- Deliver executive-level insights through clear dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
- Implement performance optimization techniques including incremental refresh, query tuning, and data model efficiency improvements.
- Apply data security practices including row-level security (RLS), access controls, and compliance standards.
- Conduct deep-dive analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for operational improvement.
- Support end-users through training, documentation, and adoption of BI tools and dashboards.
- Publish and maintain datasets and dashboards in Power BI Service with scheduled refresh and monitoring.
- Explore and integrate AI-enabled capabilities to enhance data exploration, anomaly detection, and insight generation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 3–6+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or related roles.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and dashboard development.
- Experience working with Azure data platforms and integrating multiple data sources.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and semantic layer design.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into structured analytics solutions.
- Strong analytical thinking with ability to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
- Experience with performance optimization and large-scale dataset handling in BI environments.
- Knowledge of data governance, security practices, and regulatory compliance is an asset.
- Strong communication skills with ability to present insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Experience in government, regulatory, or environmental data domains is an advantage.
