About This Position
PRIMARY DUTY: The AVP provides visionary leadership, administrative oversight, and direction for the Wellness Services portfolio including Clinic, Counseling, and Wellness Education and Prevention (WEP) services. They also serve in a shared leadership role of focusing on student wellbeing, creating a health-promoting university. The AVP also serves on the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
ESSENTIAL ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
- Leads formulation and implementation of strategic planning, direction, and initiatives for Wellness Services within a Continuous Quality Improvement process framework and in alignment with Northwest’s own strategic planning, mission, vision, and core values
- Is responsible for providing information and guidance to university leadership regarding public health issues, trends and actions required. Facilitates communication and collaborative relationships with local health care providers, as well as campus, local and state health departments to address public health concerns
- Provides direction and oversight of the development of comprehensive, integrated, collaborative, campus-wide Student Health and Wellness programs
- Provides direction and oversight for outpatient Clinic operations, Counseling services, and WEP services, including wellness education and prevention programs and initiatives in all these areas
- Leads efforts of Wellness Services to build and strengthen collaborative relationships with other departments and groups on campus, as well as with local, regional, and national partners
- Pursues grant funding opportunities to support departmental initiatives, enhance program offerings, and promote long-term sustainability through research, proposal development, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Provides direction and oversight of Budget Management and Planning for Wellness Services
- Provides direction and oversight for development of programs that contribute to student learning, retention, and success
- Provides direction and oversight of development of Learning Outcomes for all services and programs offered through Wellness Services
- Provides direction and oversight of marketing strategies and plans for Wellness Services
- Provides direction and oversight of Risk Management and Continuity of Operations as pertains to Wellness Services operations (in conjunction with campus partners and General Counsel)
- Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field
Experience: Prior experience in health services operations, student wellness services and administration, programming, budget management, employee supervision, and process improvement initiatives
Skills: Unique mix of skills including supervisory and leadership abilities; ability to communicate effectively in individual and group settings; computer and data management abilities; self-starter and able to manage tasks to completion
Skills: Advanced administrative/leadership skills including expertise in budget preparation and management, personnel management and supervision, team building, collaboration, change management, decision-making skills, program evaluation and management; ability to work with and motivate, train, and supervise a staff working with a diverse student body; demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice; demonstrated commitment to health promotion, student success, and collaboration across disciplines; knowledge of data collection and analysis as it related to program and service evaluation; demonstrated commitment to professional development and life-long learning; demonstrated support for the academic mission of the institution; demonstrated ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, and students
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work in the Wellness Center with the office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour lunch break. This position must remain flexible with hours to meet the needs of the department including working nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. This position will work in a modern facility, including the use of electronic medical records. This position must purchase and maintain a cellular device and service that will be used for work functions. This position must be responsible for plan choices, calling areas, service features, terminations clauses, and paying for all charges associated with the cellular device and service.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises Wellness Services employees, four functional areas with 18 full-time employees.
