Three cases roll through the door in the same hour: a GDV mid-torsion, a dog hit by a car with a flail chest, a cat in status epilepticus. Your pulse doesn't spike. It settles, because this is the work you trained for.

If that's you, Veterinary Specialty Center wants to talk.

VSC is a 78,000-square-foot specialty and emergency hospital in Bannockburn, Illinois, about 40 minutes from Chicago. We're employee-owned, so the people running codes next to you at 2 a.m. are also partners with a stake in the outcome.

Why ER doctors stay at VSC

• Free ownership, real stake. Every employee joins our Employee Stock Ownership Plan. The shares cost you nothing. No buy-in, just the work you already do. It's a second retirement that is directly tied to our hospital's performance.
• You run the case. From triage to discharge, it's your call. No committee, no second-guessing from three departments away.
• Backup that actually shows up. Certified and specialty-trained technicians who anticipate your next move instead of waiting for instructions.
• Tools most ER doctors only read about. 3 Tesla MRI, 64-slice CT, hyperbaric oxygen, high-flow oxygen, and a full in-house lab, all under one roof.
• Specialists down the hall, not on hold. Need neurology, surgery, or critical care input on a case? Walk down the hall.

What you bring

A DVM or VMD and an Illinois license to practice. A calm head when three cases hit at once. Comfort making the call without a script to follow. The instinct to teach a technician something new mid-case because you can't help it.

About VSC

VSC is the first employee-owned specialty and emergency hospital in Illinois, and only the second in the country. Founded almost 50 years ago, we now run one location with over 330 employees. Our specialties cover surgery, rehabilitation and integrative medicine, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, anesthesia and pain management, radiology, neurology, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, nephrology, and clinical pathology.

We're a VECCS Level I facility and one of the few practices in the world certified as a Level One Trauma Center through ACVECC's VetCOT program. Every year we run the largest free all-day CE event in the Midwest, open to almost 1000 people from our referral community.

Why Bannockburn

Chicago is 40 minutes away when you want a city night. The suburbs and forest preserves are right outside your door when you don't. Two international airports mean a quick flight to see family or disappear somewhere warm. Multiple regional surveys have ranked the Midwest among the least stressed, most community-oriented parts of the country. Ask anyone who's moved here from a coast.
