OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the grounds on the property and participating in ground construction activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Plants shrubs, trees, and flowers; prunes trees and shrubs. Removes debris from stairs and walks, rakes leaves, and mows lawns. Waters trees, shrubs, and lawns and performs irrigation activities. Sprays for weeds and insects using unrestricted chemicals as required. Operates large power lawn mowers, edging equipment, hand tools, and large vehicles associated with ground maintenance and landscaping activities. Operates pick-up trucks, flat-rack trucks, and dump trucks for hauling purposes and for trash and debris removal. Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools as required. Assists in the maintenance of parking lots and other surfaces, including asphalt repairs and minor masonry or plastering work as required. Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas such as roofs, sidewalks, and entryways as required. Installs and removes outdoor signs, parking and traffic control barriers, and overhead banners as required. May operate various snow removal equipment. Ensures that personal protection equipment is maintained, used and in individual’s possession at all times when performing any work. Ensures that work assigned is completed on a timely basis.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

May require travel between properties. Position travels to/from corporate on an as-needed basis; may need to travel to vendor locations to pick up needed supplies. In some cases, may need to operate a property golf cart to show residences to potential customers. Must have valid driver’s license and personal vehicle automobile insurance to drive on any company property.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures of grounds construction and care. Knowledge of fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides used in grounds care and gardening. Skill in operating grounds maintenance and grounds construction equipment. Working conditions include dirty environment, extreme temperatures, lifts or carries heavy objects. Must adhere to safety standards at all times.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A High School diploma or GED.

One (1) year of grounds maintenance experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Constant need to be on feet; requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or walking alternatively depending on specific needs of the day. Climbing stairs and ladders are required Must be able to grasp, push and pull certain equipment necessary to perform job. Lifting and carrying of weights under 50 lbs.
