Job Description
The Fitness Center Assistant provides front desk, customer service, and operational support during assigned shifts at a Fitness Center at a Secure Federal Government Facility. This position assists participants, maintains accurate records, monitors equipment and safety concerns, and supports fitness classes and activities. The Assistant works closely with the Fitness Center Manager and Coordinator to maintain an orderly, welcoming facility and reliable service coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist participants and guests, explain facility policies and safe-use guidance, and verify that completed Fitness Center Waiver Forms are on file.
- Issue and receive equipment for authorized users and maintain an orderly front desk during assigned shifts.
- Monitor general safety practices, participant compliance with facility guidance, and equipment condition; promptly report hazards, malfunctions, and customer concerns through established channels.
- Record attendance, equipment issues, maintenance updates, and supply needs accurately in designated electronic tracking tools.
- Assist with fitness class schedules, instructor communications, event preparation, and distribution of posters, flyers, and other promotional materials.
- Check towel service, shower curtains, and supply availability; report replenishment, cleaning, or facility upkeep needs.
- Support equipment maintenance and vendor coordination as assigned by the Fitness Center Manager or Coordinator.
- Provide accurate operational information to support monthly facility usage, inventory, and fitness goals reports.
- Respond professionally to participant questions and routine requests and refer issues requiring additional authority or assistance to the appropriate contact.
- Complete cross-training in assigned fitness center functions and provide coverage within established procedures during staff absences.
- Provide supply room coverage as assigned, including assisting customers with routine supply requests, issuing supplies, updating inventory records, and reporting stock shortages or discrepancies to the Task Leader.
- Provide coverage and operational support in other contract functional areas as needed to maintain service continuity, following appropriate training and established procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by HeiTech management or as required to support contract requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year of relevant experience in customer service, administrative support, fitness or recreation support, or a comparable role.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel for email communication, schedules, data entry, and routine reporting; ability to learn and use electronic attendance, class scheduling, inventory, and maintenance tracking tools.
- Ability to follow facility procedures, maintain accurate records, recognize safety concerns, and report issues promptly.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with others.
- Availability to work assigned part-time shifts within the fitness center’s operating hours.
Preferred
- Experience working in a fitness center, recreation facility, or similar customer-facing environment.
- Experience supporting classes, events, scheduling, or equipment tracking.
- Experience working in a federal Government or military facility.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed onsite at a Secure Federal Government Facility in Falls Church, Virginia.
- Part-time shifts are scheduled within facility coverage hours of 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays and Government-directed facility closures.
- The position is planned at approximately 20 hours per week; the specific schedule is to be confirmed.
- Requires front desk computer use and periods of standing and walking throughout the fitness facility.
- Schedule adjustments may be required to support operational coverage.
- Additional physical requirements are to be confirmed based on essential duties.
- Must follow applicable facility, safety, information protection, and Government equipment procedures.
