Job Summary:
Boyd Memorial Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacy operations and ensure compliance with all facility policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. The technician will work within the limitations set by IDFPR and under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role includes assisting in pharmacy services, medication preparation, inventory management, and ensuring safe, accurate, and effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medication Preparation & Dispensing: Assist the pharmacist in preparing, packaging, and dispensing medications while ensuring accuracy in all processes.
- Order Entry & Patient Records: Accurately perform electronic health record (EHR) order entry and maintain patient medication records.
- Inventory Control: Monitor and manage pharmacy inventory, ensuring proper stock levels, rotating stock, and processing medication orders.
- Controlled Substances Compliance: Maintain controlled drug records and perpetual inventory, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- 340B Program Maintenance: Perform tasks related to 340B split-billing/mixed-use program management and compliance.
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting: Maintain hospital formulary, comply with IDFPR regulations, and assist in pharmacy audits and quality assurance projects.
- Pharmaceutical Calculations & Sterile Compounding: Demonstrate competency in pharmaceutical calculations and compounding non-sterile products following USP 797 requirements for IV admixtures.
- Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Monitoring: Identify, document, and report potential Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) to ensure patient safety.
- Documentation & Communication: Prepare and process pharmaceutical orders, maintain purchasing records (invoices/packing slips), and file required documentation.
- Hospital Safety & Emergency Protocols: Participate in crash cart restocks, emergency drills/codes, and medication recall processing.
- Compliance & Policy Enforcement: Ensure adherence to hospital policies, including HIPAA, infection control, and medication security protocols.
- Patient Interaction & Medication Management: Identify and process Patient’s Own Meds (POMs) brought into the hospital, ensuring proper documentation and safety measures.
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Work collaboratively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to maintain seamless pharmacy operations.
Qualifications:
Education & Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalency required.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician by the State of Illinois required.
Experience:
- Hospital pharmacy experience preferred
- TruBridge or CPSI experience is a plus
Skills:
- Knowledge of IDFPR, federal, and state laws affecting pharmacy practice.
- Ability to apply unit dosing, packaging, and pharmaceutical calculations accurately.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet use, and data management.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and excellent communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:

- Frequent or prolonged standing/walking.
- Intermittent exertion when performing pharmacy-related tasks.
- Manual dexterity for handling medications and equipment.
Work Environment:
- Primarily indoors with exposure to patients and healthcare staff.
- Exposure to chemicals, biohazards, hazardous substances, and electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Must follow infection control and safety protocols to minimize risk.
