Program Overview – Community Care, Seniors Active Living Centres & Outreach
WoodGreen’s SALCs provide a wide range of programs, including health and wellness, educational workshops, cultural events, and fall-prevention and exercise classes designed to help older adults remain healthy, active, and independent. Each year, the SALCs serve more than 1,700 older adults, including immigrants and newcomers, seniors from diverse ethnic communities, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, isolated, and low-income seniors.
The Seniors Community Engagement Assistant will support the WoodGreen Seniors Active Living Centres (SALCs) Team in delivering community-development and engagement initiatives alongside active living programming:
The Seniors Community Engagement Assistant will report to the Manager of Seniors Active Living Centres & Outreach portfolio.
What You Will Do
- Support SALCO Manager and Program Coordinators with planning, facilitating and evaluating a variety of seniors’ programs that fall into the following categories: Physical Exercise and Falls Prevention Classes, Educational and Skills Building Workshops, Social and Recreational Activities, Special Events and Outings, Congregate Dining and Luncheons.
- Assist the SALC Team with the weekly operation of the seniors’ community-based food bank at the St. Hilda’s Towers including setup, distribution, and participant support.
- Assist SALCO Manager with outreach and community-engagement initiatives within Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs).
- Support the development and implementation of community-engagement strategies and pop-up programs in NORCs
- Create program calendars and promotional content including social media posts, flyers, slide decks to support with program outreach and marketing.
- Gather program data to maintain accurate records for reporting purposes and program evaluation
- Safe Food Handlers Certificate required (or willingness to obtain)
- Proven administrative skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with older adults, colleagues, and volunteers
- Strong cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Strong computer literacy and creativity for promotional content creation
- Additional language skill is a strong asset
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
