The VP of HR will serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner, aligning people strategies with business priorities while ensuring compliance, operational excellence, and an exceptional employee experience. This leader will bring both vision and execution—someone who can think big, act decisively, and roll up their sleeves to drive meaningful change.

What You’ll Do

  • Foster a high-performance, employee-centered culture where people thrive and feel valued
  • Serve as a key voice in shaping organizational direction, strategy, and growth

Operational Excellence & Innovation

  • Oversee all HR functions, driving consistency, efficiency, and service excellence across the organization
  • Leverage data and analytics to identify opportunities, solve complex workforce challenges, and mitigate risk
  • Lead modernization efforts, including automation and HRIS optimization, to create a more agile and paperless environment

Talent, Performance & Development

  • Build and execute strategies to attract, develop, and retain top talent across a diverse workforce
  • Partner with leadership to strengthen performance management, succession planning, and leadership development
  • Create scalable systems that elevate employee experience and organizational capability

Compliance, Risk & Governance

  • Ensure full compliance with employment laws, regulations, and nonprofit operational requirements
  • Provide expert guidance on employee relations, compensation, benefits, and policy development
  • Partner closely with Compliance, Risk, and Safety leadership to proactively address organizational risks

Mergers, Acquisitions & Growth

  • Lead HR due diligence and integration efforts for mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships
  • Ensure seamless employee transitions and alignment of culture, policies, and practices

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing HR team
  • Collaborate across business units, programs, and leadership teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Build trust through authenticity, transparency, and sound judgment
What You Bring
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Public Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 5+ years leading HR in a large, complex organization (~2,000+ employees)
  • Strong background in nonprofit operations, including grants, contracts, and regulatory environments
  • Proven ability to balance strategy with execution—you can design the roadmap and drive the work
  • Deep expertise in employment law, compliance, and risk mitigation
  • Experience leading enterprise HR transformations, process improvements, and system implementations
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills

Preferred:

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent HR certification
  • Project management experience (certification a plus)
