Job Description

Description:

About Us

We are a growing real estate investment and property management company based in Los Angeles, with a portfolio spanning over 1,000 residential units and nearly 1 million square feet of commercial space. As we expand our team and scale our operations, we are seeking a Senior Accountant to lead and evolve our internal accounting department. This is a high-impact leadership role with the opportunity to shape financial operations for both owned and third-party assets.

About the Role

The Senior Accountant will oversee all aspects of financial accounting, reporting, and compliance across our real estate portfolio. You will lead a team of two senior accountants and five staff accountants, ensuring timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting for internal stakeholders, investors, and third-party clients. This role reports directly to the President and works closely with Asset Management and Operations to support strategic decision-making and organizational efficiency.

Requirements:

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage the accounting function across all real estate investments, including owned assets and third-party managed properties
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting
  • Prepare and review financial statements, investor reporting packages, and property-level analytics
  • Establish and refine accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls; lead the creation and implementation of SOPs
  • Manage team performance, structure workflows, and develop team members to support career growth and departmental efficiency
  • Oversee audit, tax, debt compliance, and other external reporting requirements
  • Collaborate on acquisition and disposition activities, including closing statements and transaction-level accounting
  • Support the implementation and optimization of accounting software systems (AppFolio experience strongly preferred)
  • Partner with executive leadership to drive financial visibility, budgeting, and strategic planning

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Strong background in real estate investment and property management accounting
  • Deep understanding of GAAP, real estate fund structures, and financial reporting best practices
  • Advanced experience with AppFolio or comparable property management/accounting software
  • Proven ability to implement structure, policy, and process improvements in a growing company
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience — you know how to motivate, delegate, and scale
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments and with ownership/investors

Why Join Us?

  • Play a key role in scaling a dynamic and entrepreneurial real estate firm
  • Work with a seasoned team that values initiative, integrity, and innovation
  • Hybrid schedule with minimal overtime and a focus on work-life balance
  • Opportunity to shape an evolving department and grow with the company
