Senior Software Engineer I - Route Execution

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer I - Route Execution based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to build the technology powering real-time route execution, optimization, and fleet operations at scale.
You will design and develop distributed systems that help businesses improve logistics, delivery, and field operations through smarter data-driven solutions.
Working across backend services, APIs, and user-facing experiences, you will solve complex engineering challenges with measurable customer impact.
You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver reliable, scalable features used by teams managing large physical operations.
The position provides the autonomy to influence architecture, improve technical processes, and contribute to innovative solutions in a fast-moving environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that support real-time tracking, execution, and optimization of hundreds of thousands of routes.
  • Build reliable systems that process large volumes of route events and provide actionable insights to improve fleet efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Create web-based tools that enable dispatchers and fleet managers to efficiently manage routes, deliveries, and operational workflows.
  • Develop APIs and integrations with transportation management and enterprise resource planning systems to support complex customer needs.
  • Contribute to next-generation navigation and routing capabilities by incorporating real-time information such as traffic, weather, and operational constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, and mobile engineering to deliver high-quality customer experiences.
  • Participate in technical discussions, architectural decisions, and engineering improvements that enhance system reliability and scalability.
  • Take ownership of projects by estimating timelines, communicating progress, and delivering impactful solutions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software development experience building production-level applications and services.
  • Strong programming fundamentals and experience designing scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Experience architecting and implementing large-scale distributed systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage technical discussions, align stakeholders, and drive projects from planning through delivery.
  • Experience working with modern software development practices and technologies.
  • Knowledge of routing, dispatch, navigation, or logistics systems is considered an asset.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a passion for understanding user needs and building solutions that create measurable value.
