This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-impact engineering organization responsible for building critical experiences within a large-scale digital marketplace.
You will manage a team of engineers across mobile, backend, vendor-integrated systems, and engineering foundations.
The position combines technical leadership, people management, product strategy, and cross-functional collaboration.
You will shape engineering direction while improving reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Engineering Manager will own the strategy, execution, and technical evolution of a broad product engineering area. This role requires balancing business priorities, engineering excellence, operational reliability, and team development while collaborating with multiple stakeholders across the organization.

  • Lead and develop an engineering team of 10–12 professionals, supporting career growth, performance management, hiring, and organizational development.
  • Define and execute multi-quarter engineering strategies, roadmaps, and priorities across product initiatives, compliance requirements, marketplace needs, and technical foundations.
  • Establish technical direction across mobile applications, backend services, operational systems, and engineering platforms.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Data, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Marketing, and other teams to align priorities and drive effective decision-making.
  • Build scalable, reliable systems by improving architecture, observability, incident response processes, testing practices, and operational ownership.
  • Create strong engineering practices that improve velocity, code quality, and collaboration through modern development approaches and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Navigate complex technical and business challenges, balancing innovation, delivery speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, technical excellence, and collaborative problem-solving.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in software development, team management, and large-scale product engineering. You should be comfortable operating in complex environments where priorities evolve and collaboration across disciplines is essential.

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing engineering teams.
  • Proven experience leading product engineering teams working across mobile applications, backend systems, and operationally critical platforms.
  • Strong technical judgment in distributed systems, service ownership, reliability, observability, and production operations.
  • Experience defining and delivering multi-quarter roadmaps while managing competing priorities and dependencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives involving product, design, compliance, operations, and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including mentoring senior engineers, building high-performing teams, and supporting organizational change.
  • Experience improving engineering efficiency through modern AI developer tools or AI-assisted engineering practices.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and translate complex challenges into clear strategies.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
  • Preferred experience with marketplace platforms, onboarding and engagement systems, trust and safety solutions, or customer-facing products.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Python, Golang, Postgres, Redis, AWS, or similar engineering environments is an asset.
Benefits:
  • Remote work flexibility for candidates based in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia.
  • Competitive base salary range of CA$229,000 – CA$241,500, depending on location, experience, and skills.
  • Eligibility for equity grants and annual refresh opportunities.
  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package designed to support physical, mental, and financial wellbeing.
  • Flexible work approach allowing employees to work from home, an office, or another suitable location.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with talented teams while building products used at significant scale.
  • Career growth opportunities within an innovative and fast-moving technology environment.
  • Supportive workplace culture focused on inclusion, learning, and continuous improvement.
