The Position
The Payroll & Accounting Specialist is responsible for accurately processing and managing the company’s payroll. This role ensures that all employees are paid correctly and on time, while also maintaining compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Operating within the Human Resources or Finance department, the Payroll & Accounting Specialist handles payroll data entry, deductions, benefits administration, tax filings, and reporting. The primary contribution of this role is to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of payroll processes, thereby supporting employee satisfaction and maintaining the company’s financial integrity, while supporting HR and finance with various data reconciliation tasks. Further responsibilities include customer invoice processing and follow up along with general accounting function support.
You will be part of a motivated and diverse team and will have a high degree of interaction with all employees throughout the organization.
Responsibilities & Activities
- Ensure accurate, timely payroll processing; maintain payroll records; support final pay and related payroll adjustments; manage vacation accruals and leave balances; and ensure compliance with company policies and payroll legislation.
Qualifications & Skills
- PCP designation (or actively pursuing); experience supporting multi‑site operations; and exposure to waterfront, logistics, transportation, or warehousing environments considered a strong asset.Strong business acumen with solid accounting, analytical, and critical‑thinking skills; able to evaluate performance, variances, and operational outcomes.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to resolve conflict, influence stakeholders, and build trusted relationships across teams.Proficient in Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related tools; highly organized with strong time‑management skills and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.Demonstrated ability to prioritize and delegate work, establish courses of action, solve complex issues, and supervise, coach, and mentor staff.
