About Us

Are you ready to work at a dynamic institution that believes in higher education with lower obstacles? Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology (now known as Franklin Cummings Tech) is a nationally accredited non-profit, technical college serving Eastern Massachusetts and beyond. The college was seeded in 1791 with funds from the estate of Benjamin Franklin given to the City of Boston to proliferate access to education and level the playing field for aspiring talent with meager financial means.

Today, Franklin Cummings Tech continues to build on that legacy by offering post-secondary education in high-demand technical and skilled trade fields that lead to excellent careers. Our majors intentionally focus on select industries connected to sustainability and the clean energy transition including electric vehicle technology, smart manufacturing, practical electricity, power engineering, heat pumps/HVAC, biotechnology, automation, construction management, and more.

With a mission to deliver transformative technical and trade education that leads to economic advancement, we offer a unique mix of certificate and degree-granting programs that appeal to enterprising students and respond to employer’s demand for a well-prepared workforce. Intentional partnerships with the industries we serve coupled with high graduation and job placement rates, recently attracted the largest philanthropic gift in the history of the college from the Cummings Foundation. Last year, Franklin Cummings Tech educated more than 1,000 learners across three student types: 1) certificate and degree seekers, 2) continuing education clients, and 3) high schoolers pursuing early college. As further evidence that our mission holds resonance, this year the college tracked a 25% year-over-year jump in fall new student enrollment and applications soared.

Role Overview

Though our roots date back to 1790, we have completely overhauled our operations by building 100% new technology systems over the past two years. We are now in the final, most critical phase of our digital transformation: capturing, transcribing, and updating our operational workflows to match the advanced capabilities of our new tech infrastructure. We are seeking an agile, tech-savvy interim support team member this summer to help accelerate this efficiency work across our institution.

As a Business Process & Digital Transformation Intern at Franklin Cummings Tech, you will work directly with our Business Office, and Operations Teams to bridge the gap between human workflows and our new automated systems. Your primary mission is to help employees by shadowing key elements of their daily work so that it can be: 1) mapped at a current state and then 2) assessed for redesign.

Another stream of work is to create visual/video How To manuals for new tech and AV systems and codify new operational tech throughout the building so that proper use is democratized and more accessible. This role is highly collaborative and requires a mix of active listening, analytical thinking, and tech-driven documentation assisted by AI tools such as Scribe, Gemini and Co-Pilot.

Key Responsibilities

  • Map & Redesign Workflows: Partner with the Business Office, Operations and potentially the President's Office to analyze current processes and map out optimized, modern workflows.
  • Document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Create clear, prescriptive SOPs for processes that impact cross-college leadership initiatives to ensure long-term operational consistency.
  • Leverage AI & Documentation Tools: Utilize advanced digital tools such as Scribe, Claude, and other AI/automation platforms to efficiently transcribe, structure, and update business processes.
  • Support Change Management: Help codify new operational pathways and assist in preparing training materials to get staff up to speed on automated approaches.

Salary stipend for this role is $2,500.00 for 9-10 week summer assignment.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Skills

  • Tech-Savvy Mindset: Familiarity or comfort with AI tools (like Claude and Co-Pilot), workflow documentation software (like Scribe), and general cloud-based tech ecosystems.
  • Analytical & Detail-Oriented: Ability to listen to complex, manual processes and translate them into clean, structured, and logical step-by-step workflows.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication skills to successfully interview busy employees, gather details, and guide them through process redesign.
  • Self-Starter: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where digital transformation is being piloted and responding to iterative requests and requirements.
