Financial Controller

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Financial Controller in Canada.

This role is a high-impact finance leadership position within a fast-scaling, multi-entity, and acquisition-driven environment.
You will be responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and scalable accounting operations across Canadian and US entities.
The position blends hands-on operational accounting with strategic oversight of close processes, payroll, and financial reporting.
You will lead and develop a small but critical finance operations team while improving systems, controls, and workflows.
The role requires someone comfortable operating across multiple currencies and jurisdictions, particularly CAD and USD.
It is ideal for a controller who thrives in dynamic, fast-growing service-based or agency environments and enjoys building structure from complexity.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will own the full accounting operations and financial close process across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency in reporting. You will lead the month-end close cycle (targeting completion by business day 10), oversee consolidated financial statements, and maintain strong intercompany reconciliation processes across CAD and USD entities.

  • Own and continuously improve the month-end close process across all entities
  • Prepare consolidated monthly financial statements for leadership
  • Manage payroll operations across Canadian and US entities, including filings and remittances
  • Oversee intercompany accounting, eliminations, and currency reconciliation processes
  • Lead and mentor a small finance operations team (bookkeeping, AR/AP, payroll)
  • Ensure compliance with GST/QST/HST, SR&ED, US sales tax, and corporate tax obligations
  • Collaborate with external accountants and support audit readiness
  • Build and maintain scalable finance SOPs and operational playbooks
  • Support M&A integration, including chart of accounts alignment and onboarding of new entities
Requirements

This role requires a seasoned accounting professional with strong operational finance experience in multi-entity, multi-currency environments. You are a CPA with hands-on experience owning the full close cycle and managing finance operations within a service-based or agency setting. You are comfortable working across both Canadian and US tax and payroll systems and have a strong systems-oriented mindset.

  • CPA designation (Canada) is required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a Controller or senior leadership role
  • Experience in agency, professional services, or media/marketing environments strongly preferred
  • Strong expertise in QuickBooks Online and financial reporting systems
  • Proven experience with multi-entity and multi-currency (CAD/USD) accounting
  • Deep knowledge of Canadian tax compliance (GST/QST, T2, T4/T4A, T5, RL-1)
  • Working knowledge of US payroll and tax requirements
  • Hands-on experience managing payroll across Canadian and US jurisdictions
  • Fully bilingual in French and English (written and spoken)
  • Strong ability to design and document SOPs and scalable financial processes
  • Experience working in fast-paced, distributed, or remote-first teams is an asset
  • Nice to have: M&A integration experience, revenue recognition exposure, Notion or modern finance tooling
Benefits
  • Fully remote work anywhere in Canada
  • Competitive base salary with annual performance bonus
  • Comprehensive group benefits package
  • Unlimited PTO and sick leave policy
  • Direct exposure to executive leadership and M&A integration work
  • Opportunity to shape and scale a growing finance function
  • High autonomy with low bureaucracy and strong ownership culture
  • Clear progression opportunities within an expanding organization
