About This Position
The Success Coach is responsible for providing outreach, holistic support, and intervention services to high school and college students participating in the TJC Promise program. Success Coaches engage Promise Scholars throughout their time in the program by helping students become college-ready, providing individualized success coaching, and assisting them with completing college applications. The TJC Promise increases access to higher education in East Texas by providing more than 8,000 high school students with the assurance that their tuition and fees will be underwritten for two years at TJC.
- Facilitate a comprehensive TJC Promise Scholar high school experience through the planning and implementation of activities designed to increase student success, retention, and engagement.
- Leverage technology to track and monitor TJC Promise eligibility within assigned cohorts of 2,000 students.
- Work closely with designated contacts at 18 partnering high schools to communicate program benefits and requirements to participants and their families.
- Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions to help develop essential life and academic skills such as time management, study skills, goal setting, etc.
- Collaborate with TJC student services departments and high school personnel to coordinate on-site visits at high schools to assist scholars in the completion of FAFSA, TJC admission, and TJC Foundation scholarship applications, as well as other requirements of the Promise program.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the degree and certifications offered by the College, as well as familiarity with all academic and workforce programs, student life organizations, support services, and standards of the TJC Promise.
- Communicate regularly with high school Promise scholars and their parents to address needs and alleviate concerns about attending college.
- Guide scholars while attending TJC to help them adapt to the collegiate learning environment and successfully pursue their educational and career objectives.
- Connect students to appropriate support services at TJC and surrounding East Texas agencies.
- Utilize multiple software programs (e.g., Banner, Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.) to track progress and generate reports to identify barriers to student success and promote data-driven strategies that increase persistence, retention, and completion of a college education.
- Organize and maintain accurate and timely information within databases and physical files concerning the progress of scholars, including documentation of all contact and correspondence with students.
- Provide ongoing administrative support for the overall TJC Promise program, such as on-campus visits, preview days, student orientations, high school signing ceremonies, and information sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director, TJC Promise.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervision
Work Environment: Indoor office setting with occasional outdoor work (5%, Campus Tours).Work occasionally required outside of regular business hours. May be exposed to loud noise (large-group events).
Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, lifting 25 pounds, and repetitive typing.
Travel Required: Yes – 20%, East Texas High School Campuses
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
Required Education
Associate’s Degree in a related field
Required Experience
One year of experience mentoring, success coaching, teaching, or advising in an educational or nonprofit setting.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
