About This Position
The Career Placement Manager is a grant-funded position and will play a critical role in the successful implementation of Tyler Junior College’s (TJC) TRUE 2025-27 Grant Program. This position will oversee all aspects of career placement services for students enrolled in the Phlebotomy Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, and Psychiatric Technician programs. The Career Placement Manager will build and maintain relationships with clinical partners, employers, and workforce stakeholders to ensure students have access to work-based learning opportunities, clinical practicum placements, and direct pathways to employment upon program completion. Additionally, this position will be responsible for tracking student outcomes and providing follow-up support to ensure long-term career success for program graduates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Establish and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers, mental health institutions, and clinical sites to secure practicum opportunities for students in all three programs
- Coordinate agreements with clinical partners to ensure compliance with program requirements and alignment with workforce needs
- Serve as the primary liaison between TJC and clinical partners, addressing any issues related to student placements, evaluations, or expectations
- Develop and implement career placement strategies to ensure program graduates transition seamlessly into high-demand careers in allied health
- Organize career fairs, employer visits, and networking events to connect students with potential employers
- Provide individualized career counseling and job readiness training, including resume writing, interview preparation, and professional communication
- Work closely with employers to identify job openings and match graduates to employment opportunities
- Maintain detailed records of student placements, employment outcomes, and long-term career progress
- Conduct follow-ups with program graduates at three, six, and twelve months post-graduation to assess employment status and job satisfaction
- Collect and report data on student outcomes, including employment rates and wage increases, to comply with TRUE Grant reporting requirements
- Assist with recruitment and retention strategies to ensure enrollment targets for the three programs are met
- Work closely with faculty and program managers to integrate career readiness into the curriculum
- Ensure compliance with all aspects of the TRUE Grant, including work-based learning opportunities and employment transition plans

Work Environment:
- Work is performed in an office setting, with frequent travel to meet with employers, clinical sites, and workforce partners
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support student events or recruitment efforts
Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, driving, repetitive motion
Travel Required: Yes - Moderate
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Required Experience
Two years of experience in career services, workforce development, or a related field
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in higher education or with grant-funded programs
- Knowledge of healthcare workforce needs, including phlebotomy, clinical medical assistant, and psychiatric technician roles
- Familiarity with career placement software and tools
Additional Job-Specific Requirements
Proficiency in data collection and analysis, with experience in reporting outcomes
