About This Position
Job Summary:
The program therapist plays a crucial role in providing compassionate support services to children and families experiencing grief and loss. The program therapist provides individual, short-term, trauma-informed counseling services for children and families in an office-based setting. The program therapist will also be responsible for coordinating and providing school-based program bereavement services to students in their assigned districts. A company laptop will be provided by CBCST to allow for completion of assigned administrative duties and work-related projects. The position will require travel within assigned districts. The position of Program Therapist is a grant funded position and is dependent on the needs expressed by districts and agencies partnered with CBCST.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
A: DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
School Based Responsibilities:
1. Provides individual, short term (8-12 sessions) bereavement counseling for children and families utilizing Trauma and Grief Component Therapy or Play Therapy.
2. Conducts biopsychosocial and in person assessments.
3. Develops and implements treatment plan for client based on clinical assessment.
4. Conduct support groups following prepared curriculum in an age-appropriate manner consistent with trauma informed approach.
5. Administers required assessments, pre-group screeners, and post-group screeners for students participating in grief support groups.
6. Enter assessments into appropriate databases.
7. Provide crisis management response and collaborates with school personnel to report any concerns related to students reporting abuse, or intent to harm self or others, in accordance with state reporting guidelines and district protocols.
8. Provide parent training and outreach as requested by district.
9. Provide professional development training for district staff in conjunction with Hill Country Program Director.
10. Maintain professional, collaborative relationships with all district personnel and other collaborative partners
11. Attend weekly team meetings with the Hill Country Program Director.
Office Based Responsibilities:
1. Provides individual, short term (8-12 sessions) bereavement counseling for children and families utilizing Trauma and Grief Component Therapy or Play Therapy.
2. Conducts biopsychosocial and in person assessments.
3. Develops and implements treatment plan for client based on clinical assessment.
4. Maintains a caseload of 15 sessions per week.
5. Prepares progress notes and treatment plan in the clients record within 48 hours of service.
6. Maintains all clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and accrediting standards and in accordance with CBCST guidelines.
7. Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness to emergent client needs as needed.
8. Provides on-site crisis intervention for clients and families in acute distress.
9. Adheres to mandatory reporting requirements for child abuse as mandated by Texas law, ensuring the safety and well-being of our clients and in accordance with CBCST guidelines.
10. Adheres to ethical standards as outlined by the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics.
11. Reports any concerns related to clients wellbeing, safety and/or intent to harm self or others as mandated by Texas law and in accordance with CBCST guidelines.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Depending on organizational needs and counselor availability, they may provide additional support facilitating grief support groups and grief camps as requested by the Program Director Hill Country.
2. Participates in awareness/education presentations and events as needed.
3. May assist in educating and training staff and/or student counselors.
4. Depending on organizational needs, occasional evenings and weekend work hours may be requested by the Program Director Hill Country.
Travel:
Expected to provide school-based support groups at multiple schools within the assigned districts
B. EDUCATION/SKILLS/TRAINNING AND EXPERIENCE:
12. Masters degree in a relevant field (social work/counseling), clinical licensure of LPC-Associate, LPC, LCSW or LMFT with at least two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
13. Bilingual Therapist preferred (Spanish).
14. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
15. Experience in grief, loss and trauma for children and families.
16. Experience in working with diverse and multicultural populations.
17. Strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and time management skills.
18. Proficient use of computers, internet, Microsoft Office suite of programs, and multi-line phone system.
19. Must be familiar with trauma informed care and prepared to complete Traumatic Grief Component Therapy course when offered by CBCST.
C. PHYSICAL REQUIERMENTS:
This position involves typical periods of sitting, walking, and clinical typing for documentation, with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, mobility within the office and the capacity to work with children of all ages. Clear verbal and written communication, along with basic reaching and dexterity skills, are essential for successful performance.
