Director, Billing

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Billing based in United States.

The Director, Billing will lead strategic initiatives designed to improve billing performance, accelerate cash collections, and reduce revenue cycle inefficiencies across a complex multi-client healthcare environment.
This is a high-impact leadership role focused on identifying root causes, developing scalable solutions, and transforming billing operations.
You’ll work closely with Revenue Cycle, Revenue Integrity, Denials Management, Front-End Operations, and client-facing teams to drive measurable improvements.
The role combines hands-on analytics with enterprise-level strategy, giving you the opportunity to influence operational priorities and long-term transformation.
You’ll also lead and develop a growing team while establishing workflows, frameworks, and best practices that can scale across markets.
Success requires strong analytical thinking, executive communication, curiosity, and the confidence to challenge established processes.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead analysis of denials, rejections, claim edits, and other billing performance indicators to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement innovative billing optimization strategies that improve operational efficiency, reduce revenue leakage, and strengthen financial performance.
  • Drive enterprise-wide initiatives focused on reducing unbilled days, improving claim quality, and accelerating cash collections.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle Operations, Revenue Integrity, Denials Management, Front-End Operations, and client-facing teams to identify issues and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Present analytical findings, recommendations, business cases, and process improvement strategies to senior and executive stakeholders.
  • Build scalable workflows, operating frameworks, and best practices that support consistent billing performance across multiple clients and markets.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a growing billing optimization team, establishing clear expectations, accountability, engagement, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner in defining the future state of billing operations and identifying opportunities for enterprise transformation.
  • Balance strategic leadership with hands-on analytical problem-solving in a fast-paced, continuously evolving healthcare environment.
  • Evaluate opportunities to incorporate automation, AI-enabled tools, and emerging technologies into billing workflows and operational processes.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of implemented initiatives and use performance data to refine strategies and sustain improvements.
Requirements:
  • Progressive leadership experience within healthcare revenue cycle operations, with a strong understanding of billing and related revenue cycle functions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in root-cause analysis and the ability to translate complex operational challenges into actionable, measurable solutions.
  • Experience working across multiple revenue cycle functions and successfully leading process improvement or operational optimization initiatives.
  • Advanced critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret operational data and identify meaningful trends.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using data to support operational decision-making.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, develop talent, establish accountability, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to influence change across complex organizational structures and collaborate effectively with cross-functional and client-facing stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, curiosity, and willingness to challenge traditional approaches in pursuit of better outcomes.
  • Experience working in a dynamic, multi-client healthcare environment with competing priorities is strongly valued.
  • Familiarity with Epic, Cerner, or other major healthcare information systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of clearinghouse operations and claim management processes is advantageous.
  • Experience within a payer, health system, consulting organization, or healthcare technology environment is a plus.
  • Exposure to automation and AI-enabled technologies such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, bots, or workflow automation platforms is preferred.
  • Experience leading enterprise transformation or operational excellence initiatives is an advantage.

  • Compensation: Base salary range of $88,200–$132,300 USD, with final compensation determined by factors such as geographic location, skills, experience, education, licensure, and internal equity.
