You will focus on enabling engineers to deliver high-quality, reliable backend systems while fostering a culture of autonomy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Your impact will span both people leadership and technical direction, ensuring teams are unblocked, aligned, and delivering against a clear product roadmap.
You will work closely with product, design, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape the evolution of a core platform used by millions of developers worldwide.
The role combines strong engineering leadership with architectural awareness, particularly in backend systems built with modern cloud-native technologies.
This is a high-impact opportunity to influence both team performance and the future of a critical open-source-driven platform.

- Drive execution of the backend roadmap, helping teams define milestones, remove blockers, and deliver high-quality features on time.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for backend systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with product managers and stakeholders to define OKRs, prioritize work, and align engineering efforts with product strategy.
- Foster a high-performance engineering culture focused on quality, fast feedback loops, and continuous experimentation.
- Facilitate cross-team collaboration across engineering, product, documentation, and customer-facing teams.
- Support and improve engineering processes, delivery practices, and developer productivity across the backend organization.
- Encourage adoption of modern development practices, including AI-assisted workflows, while maintaining strong engineering standards.
- Contribute to hiring, team building, and efforts to improve diversity and inclusion within the engineering organization.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong exposure to backend systems and distributed architectures.
- 3+ years of experience in engineering management, leading and scaling high-performing technical teams.
- Strong technical background, ideally with experience in Go and modern cloud-native backend development.
- Ability to engage deeply in architectural discussions and guide teams toward sound technical decisions.
- Experience working in high-scale, distributed systems environments with a focus on reliability and performance.
- Strong collaboration skills with product and cross-functional stakeholders, including roadmap and OKR definition.
- Proven ability to balance delivery execution with long-term technical quality and system design.
- Comfortable working in highly autonomous engineering cultures with distributed teams.
- Strong communication, coaching, and mentoring skills with a people-first leadership approach.
- Familiarity with modern developer productivity practices, including AI-assisted development workflows, is a plus.
Benefits:
- Competitive compensation including base salary ranging from CAD 211,450 to CAD 253,740, plus bonus eligibility.
- Equity through Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), ensuring shared ownership in organizational success.
- Fully remote-first work environment with a global, distributed engineering culture.
- Generous annual leave policy, including 30 days of vacation and designated shutdown days.
- Comprehensive benefits package including health coverage and additional local benefits.
- Professional growth opportunities in a high-scale, innovation-driven engineering organization.
- Access to modern development tools, including AI coding assistants and advanced model access.
- Collaborative, transparent, and open-source-driven culture focused on autonomy and impact.
- Inclusive and diverse workplace with strong emphasis on equality and belonging.
