Engineering Manager

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager in Canada.

This is a high-impact leadership role within a fast-growing, globally distributed organization focused on transforming healthcare workforce staffing through a digital marketplace platform. The Engineering Manager will guide talented software engineers while shaping processes, delivery standards, and technical excellence across teams. You will work closely with product and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable engineering solutions. The role combines people leadership, technical guidance, and strategic execution in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. You will play a key part in scaling engineering teams, improving system reliability, and accelerating product delivery. Accountabilities:
  • Lead and manage engineering teams by owning delivery, execution, and operational excellence, ensuring high-quality and predictable outcomes across projects.
  • Partner closely with product managers and stakeholders to define roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and align engineering efforts with business and customer needs.
  • Provide technical oversight through code reviews, architecture discussions, and design feedback to maintain strong engineering standards.
  • Drive performance management by giving continuous feedback, addressing challenges proactively, and supporting engineers’ growth and development.
  • Mentor and coach engineers through individualized development plans and foster a strong culture of learning and accountability.
  • Improve engineering processes, promote transparency, and raise the technical bar across teams and initiatives.
  • Participate actively in hiring, onboarding, and retaining top engineering talent in a rapidly scaling organization.
  • Take ownership of challenges and proactively solve problems with a strong sense of accountability and urgency.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of software development experience, including at least 2+ years in a leadership role such as Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or Founder.
  • Proven experience managing agile, high-performing, distributed engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong track record in performance management, including coaching engineers and addressing performance challenges constructively.
  • Ability to translate complex and ambiguous problems into clear, actionable engineering solutions with a customer-first mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong technical fluency in system design and software engineering, with hands-on development experience.
  • Comfortable navigating difficult conversations, providing direct feedback, and making decisive leadership decisions.
  • Experience in hiring, onboarding, and scaling engineering teams in high-growth environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Bonus: experience in startup environments, familiarity with modern web technologies such as TypeScript, React, NestJS, or microservices architectures, and experience supporting distributed applications.
