This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Conventional Generation Principal Engineer in Canada.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the design and integration of electrical systems for conventional thermal power assets, including gas turbines and reciprocating engine-generator sets. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions for simple-cycle, combined-cycle, cogeneration (CHP), and reciprocating engine plants, while advancing internal best practices and technical knowledge. This is a hands-on position that requires collaboration across mechanical, control, and other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems. You will oversee the full lifecycle of projects, from design and equipment selection to installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting. The role demands technical expertise, a commitment to safety and compliance, and a focus on delivering projects on time and within budget. Working remotely with occasional travel, you will have the chance to contribute to shaping the grid of the future.
- Develop AC Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), HV–MV designs, grounding schemes, and power distribution systems.
- Select and specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and instrumentation to meet project requirements and industry standards.
- Oversee installation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), start-up, and troubleshooting of electrical systems for turbine and engine plants.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant safety regulations and industry standards, including the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with overall plant operations.
- Manage assigned projects to meet quality, schedule, and budget objectives while providing technical guidance.
- Contribute to the advancement of internal engineering standards and best practices for power generation projects.
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering (power systems focus) or Mechanical Engineering; working knowledge of mechanical/controls aspects of turbines and RICE gensets is a plus.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) required.
- 7+ years of electrical design experience in gas turbine, cogeneration, or reciprocating engine power plants.
- 7+ years of experience with electrical systems in power generation or industrial facilities.
- Experience with major OEMs such as GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Solar Turbines, Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, or MAN.
- Hands-on experience with simple-cycle, combined-cycle, CHP, and reciprocating engine configurations.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
