This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Engineering, Data based in United States.

The Director of Engineering, Data will lead the strategy, architecture, and execution of a scalable data ecosystem that powers business intelligence, customer-facing products, and AI-driven capabilities.

Accountabilities:

The Director of Engineering, Data will own the vision and execution of the data platform strategy, ensuring that infrastructure, systems, and teams are positioned to support long-term growth. This leader will drive technical excellence while fostering collaboration across functions and building a scalable foundation for data-driven products and insights.

  • Define and execute the long-term technical strategy for the data platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data platform engineers while creating a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain scalable data infrastructure, including pipelines, processing systems, integrations, and platform capabilities.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Analytics teams to deliver customer-facing reporting, dashboards, and data-driven experiences.
  • Establish data governance frameworks, quality standards, lineage practices, and compliance processes.
  • Drive architectural decisions that balance immediate business needs with long-term flexibility and scalability.
  • Develop operational excellence practices, including monitoring, alerting, reliability improvements, and performance optimization.
  • Enable machine learning and AI initiatives through robust infrastructure, deployment frameworks, and data foundations.
  • Collaborate with leadership to align data platform priorities with broader business and technical objectives.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience building and scaling data platforms, leading engineering teams, and delivering impactful technology solutions. They should combine strong technical depth with strategic thinking, business awareness, and exceptional leadership skills.

  • 10+ years of experience in data platform engineering, distributed systems, infrastructure engineering, or related technical fields.
  • 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams, including senior engineers and technical leaders.
  • Proven experience building scalable data platforms and ML infrastructure supporting analytics and customer-facing products.
  • Strong knowledge of modern data technologies such as dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, Kafka, and related data ecosystem tools.
  • Deep understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, security practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience partnering with Product teams to deliver reporting, analytics features, and data-powered customer experiences.
  • Ability to create technical roadmaps aligned with business goals while balancing strategic vision and execution.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience operating effectively in fast-paced, high-growth environments with evolving priorities.
