The Prevention and Outreach Specialist works closely with the Title IX Office on the coordination and implementation of the University’s efforts to foster a learning, living and working environment that is free from sexual misconduct and harm. The Prevention and Outreach Specialist will work closely and collaboratively with various colleagues and University partner offices, including, but not limited to, other positions within the University Compliance Office, Office for Health Promotion, the Sexual Assault Resource Coordinator (SARC) Team, the Respondent Resource Coordinator (RRC) Team, Dean of Students Office, the Office of Human Resources, the Department of Public Safety, and various offices within the Division of Student Life.

The Prevention and Outreach Specialist is responsible for establishing and implementing the University’s sexual misconduct awareness initiatives including outreach and prevention efforts. The Prevention and Outreach Specialist is responsible for assisting with youth protection efforts. To that end, the Prevention and Outreach Specialist will develop and deliver sexual misconduct prevention and youth protection education and training while engaging with the community at outreach events. This position includes developing and presentation of curriculum that furthers the University’s efforts to promote a safe and healthy environment for its community members and visitors.

This position requires flexibility in hours with nights and weekends as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver educational programming to students, faculty and staff on sexual misconduct prevention and youth protection, including training required by Title IX Regulations, Clery/VAWA, NCAA, and other governing bodies.
  • Coordinate outreach events to engage members within the community.
  • Develop communications regarding training opportunities and prevention materials to strengthen interest and engagement in sexual violence prevention and youth protection.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate effectiveness of programs and adjust programs accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records of education and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with student organizations, faculty, and staff to provide education and promote outreach.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to program goals.
  • Manage various online education and training platforms.
  • Develop content for and manage web content and social media accounts.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to sexual violence prevention, public health–informed strategies, trauma‑informed education, youth protection, and emerging best practices.
  • Provide administrative support for the registration of University sponsored programs or activities involving minors.
  • Provide office management support to the Title IX Office.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education:
  • Bachelors degree required.

Work Experience:
  • Experience in sexual violence response, public health, compliance, or higher education field.
  • Experience delivering training and prevention education.

Work Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals of varying identities which may impact their access to and utilization of various support services and resources.
  • Working knowledge of trauma-informed practices.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to read and write English language.

Specific Job Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of Title IX Regulations, Clery Act and VAWA.
  • Knowledge of contemporary issues surrounding sexual violence in the college setting.

Equipment Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated competency in computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work Experience:
  • 2 years of experience of presenting trainings and prevention and education materials.
  • Experience working with individuals impacted by sexual and interpersonal violence.

Equipment Knowledge:
  • Experience developing presentations.
  • Experience utilizing marketing and outreach platforms.

Other:
  • Knowledge of youth protection best practices and PA Act 153.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
  • Tools, machinery and equipment used:
    • Telephones and personal computers.

  • Physical requirements: (items such as lifting, pushing, pulling, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, manual dexterity, walking etc.):
    • Both gross and fine motor skills are needed, as well as visual, hearing, and speaking skills.

This position falls within salaried grade 15 and the range is $64,000-80,000. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
