GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The registered nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process. The nurse must assess and identify patient problems/needs, establish a plan of care, implement and evaluate nursing care for a specific patient or group of patients while maintaining standards of care
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
1. Currently licensed in the State of West Virginia.
2. Graduate of school of nursing.
3. Initial and continuing education as listed in educational guidelines.
Licensure:Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in West Virginia.
Education and/or Experience:Graduate nurse acceptable, based on department needs.
Certifications or Registrations: See attached.
Attendance: Must be able to maintain an established work schedule as a dependable team member. The team member should demonstrate a willingness to be flexible with work hours. Staff members are required to work shifts and may be required to work on-call hours.

GENERAL OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The registered nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process. The nurse must assess and identify patient problems/needs, establish a plan of care, implement and evaluate nursing care for a specific patient or group of patients while maintaining standards of care. The registered nurse will accompany patients being transported by critical care transport to CAMC for the purpose of IABP management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
In addition to the position specific skills and core competencies that this employee will be required to possess and perform, there may be certain competencies establishedon an annual basis that the employee will be required to perform and to demonstrate that they are competent in their position. These competencies may change as new procedures and equipment are introduced into the facility. It is the responsibility of the employee to understand that they will be expected to become competent in these areas following a proper orientation/education process. (A partial listing of some of the more significant core competenciesthat are associated with this position are included with the position specific skills below.)

- Performs physical and psychosocial assessment of the patient and demonstrates competency in delivery, evaluation, and documentation of nursing care.
- Develops a plan of care to meet individualized needs/ problems, implements plans of care, and revises and updates Plans of Care according to patient progress and expected outcomes.
- Exercises informed judgment and uses individual competence and qualifications as criteria for prioritizing patient needs, seeking consultation, and performing duties to accomplish expected outcomes.
- Assists patients and families with emotional and psychological issues and provides support to facilitate patient comfort and well-being.
- Accountable for the quality of patient care delivered to assigned patients. All duties are performed within hospital policy and procedures, physician orders, and standards of nursing practice.
- Participates in and supports performance improvement and risk management activities.
- Demonstrates cost effectiveness by using supplies judiciously, anticipates needs for special supplies and equipment, makes recommendations for change.
- Attends and participates in department and facility meetings (75%) as required.

Environment of Care, Infection Control, and Employee Health:
- The employee shall make safety of self and others a top priority at all times.
- The employee will keep violence and weapons out of the work place.
- The employee shall use approved personal protective equipment at all appropriate times and inform management of any needs for such equipment.
- The employee shall successfully complete all annual mandatory inservices in a timely manner and comply with the instructions given.
- The employee shall cooperate with all Infection Control, Employee Health, Human Resource, etc. requests and policies in order to maintain a safe environment and to meet outside agency regulations/requirements.
- The employee will report any safety concerns or recommendations to the appropriate Safety Officer and/or their manager immediately. All injuries to self or others will be reported immediately to the Department Manager or others in authority and the proper procedures for obtaining help and documenting will be followed.
- The employee will report any serious event or incident as defined and outlined in the Hospital’s Patient/Resident Safety Plan. An employee shall not retaliate against another employee because the employee reported what he/she believes to be a serious event or incident.

Individual Growth and Skill Development – Regulatory Compliance:
- The employee will be responsible for making sure all required licenses, certifications, registrations, etc. are up to date at all times and that HR and the Manager have documents that verify this fact.
- The employee will take steps to continue to develop their current skills as well as new skills that become a part of their position.
- The employee will inform their manager of any training needs that they feel they need to receive in order for them to do their job competently during the course of their employment.
- The employee will meet any requirements that are or may be established for their position by outside regulatory agencies, i.e. AOA, State, OSHA, etc.
- The employee will become oriented to and, understand and support the hospital’s compliance plan.
