Graduate Nurse
The Staff Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of the patients on his/her assigned unit during a given tour of duty.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Licensure: Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in West Virginia.
Education and/or Experience:Previous experience may be required in specialty areas.
Communication Skills: Must possess good oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate with all hospital contacts both on the telephone and directly.
Computer/Typing/Mathematical Skills: Must be or become familiar with the hospital computer system. Minimal typing skills required.
BCLS validation within 60 days of hire, ACLS validation within 1 year where required by unit scope of care. PALS and NRP within 1 year where required by unit scope of care.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Staff Nurse may be assigned as a team leader/charge nurse in which case he/she is responsible for the direction and supervision of personnel assigned to his/her tour of duty.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Visual Acuity –Must be able to see to assess patient’s condition, both physical characteristics and nonverbal communications. Must be able to monitor technical equipment within job responsibilities.
2. Hearing Acuity – Must be able to hear to assess patient’s condition. Must be able to distinguish variations in sounds.
3. Manual Dexterity – Must be able to manipulate and operate equipment.
4. Oral Communication – Must possess good oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate with all hospital contacts both on the telephone and directly.
5. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to withstand repeated bending, and be able to assume awkward positions which may be needed in transferring, positioning, and restraining patients. Considerable lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or crouching.
6. Must have the ability to respond to emergency situations.
7. Must have stamina to work 40 hours per week with rotating shifts, weekends or overtime as needed.
8. Must be able to access all areas of the patient’s room including bathroom.

- Graduate of school of nursing.
- Initial and continuing education as listed in educational guidelines.
