With centuries of experience, we are a powerful supplier of both domestic and imported, exotic hardwood lumber such as Teak, Sapele, Genuine Mahogany, Black Walnut, and Ipe. J. Gibson McIlvain is more than just materials and with our comprehensive architectural millwork facility, we offer custom millwork services from interior trim and cabinetry to exterior siding, pergolas, and furniture.

Position Summary: The Quality Control Manager for Moldings and Millwork is responsible for inspecting materials, finished products, and production processes to ensure all moldings, trim, and custom millwork meet company standards, customer specifications, and workmanship expectations. This position plays a key role in identifying defects, maintaining consistency, reducing rework, and supporting a high level of product quality before material moves to the next stage of production or shipment.

Key Responsibilities

· Inspect moldings, trim, and millwork products for proper profile, dimensions, species, grade, surface quality, moisture concerns, machining defects, and overall appearance.

· Verify that finished material matches customer orders, work tickets, drawings, samples, and company quality standards.

· Check for defects such as tear-out, chatter marks, burn marks, poor sanding, incorrect profiles, open joints, cracks, splits, dents, stain or finish inconsistencies, and other workmanship issues.

· Use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, profile gauges, moisture meters, and approved samples to confirm accuracy and consistency.

· Report nonconforming material so it can be corrected, reworked, downgraded, or removed from production as appropriate.

· Communicate quality concerns clearly with machine operators, finishing personnel, supervisors, and managers to correct problems promptly.

· Perform in-process inspections during production as well as final inspections prior to packaging, staging, or shipping.

· Maintain accurate inspection records, notes, photos when needed, and documentation of defects, rework, waste, and recurring quality trends.

· Assist with root-cause review of quality issues and recommend practical improvements to reduce defects and improve consistency.

· Confirm packaging, labeling, bundling, and handling meet company standards to prevent damage after inspection.

· Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized inspection area.

Requirements:

· Experience in woodworking, moldings, millwork, cabinetry, lumber, manufacturing, or a related quality control role preferred.

· Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize defects in wood, machining, sanding, finishing, and assembly.

· Ability to read and understand work orders, production tickets, drawings, measurements, and customer specifications.

· Basic knowledge of wood species, grades, profiles, grain, moisture, and common manufacturing defects.

· Ability to use measuring and inspection tools accurately.

· Good communication skills and the ability to work professionally with production employees and supervisors.

· Dependable, organized, and able to make quality decisions in a timely manner.

· Basic computer or paperwork skills for documenting inspections and quality issues.

· Must be able to pass pre-employment drug test (including marijuana)

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a production environment.

· Ability to bend, reach, inspect, handle, and measure material safely.

· Ability to lift 50 lbs and move material as required by company safety guidelines.

· Comfortable working around machinery, lumber, dust, noise, finishing materials, and normal millwork production conditions.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm with some flexibility due to business needs

Rate of Pay: $25-$35/hr based on experience
