Description:

The On-the-Job Training (OJT) Manager supports the quality, safety, and real time coaching and skill building embedded in the work experiences of all PowerCorpsPHL programs. This role is responsible for driving field performance, overseeing safety standards, supporting crew supervisors, and managing program logistics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

General Duties:

• Guide and support supervisors on best practices for young adult engagement, worksite safety, and effective crew management.

• Provide direct coverage for industry crews, ensuring successful daily operations and crew safety.

• Provide on-the-job training and professional development workshops for BRIDGE, TRUST, and Water and Land Management Academy (WLMA).

• Support Industry Academy Lead with the management of daily logistics, including scheduling, fleet coordination, tool and equipment maintenance, and field partner relations.

• Instruct trainees in the foundations of arboriculture including pruning, plant healthcare, and tree anatomy and physiology.

• Partner with teams to lead the planning and delivery of the BRIDGE Program.

• Serve as a mentor to Youth Development Practitioner Apprentice.

• Drive a passenger van to transport participants, tools, and supplies to work sites.

Program-Specific Duties:

BRIDGE

• Partner with Program Director and TRUST team to plan and implement recruitment process for BRIDGE program.

• Design and build the BRIDGE programming schedule in collaboration with the Program Director, TRUST team, WLMA team, and Advisor team.

• Coordinate schedule and logistics of projects, site assignments, and work schedules.

• Facilitate professional development workshops as well as on-the-job technical skills training

• Work alongside the Program Director and Industry Academy Lead to coordinate third-party consultants for specialized certifications and workshops, including OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, Sexual Harassment Prevention, and Group Healing sessions.

• Support with BRIDGE graduate transitions into WLMA or other internal programming.

TRUST

• Lead GSI and Tree maintenance projects for high performing TRUST participants interested in WLMA at the midway point in the TRUST cohort.

• Partner with Industry Academy Lead and TRUST Lead to coordinate joint projects with TRUST and WLMA.

• Identify TRUST participants for BRIDGE based on job readiness assessment, career goals, performance on site, and interest in internal programs

• Collaborate with TRUST team to conduct recruitment process for qualified TRUST candidates looking to enter BRIDGE.

WLMA

• Provide guidance and support to WLMA supervisors on best practices for working with young adults, safety, and crew management.

• Provide regular coverage to WLMA crews.

• Facilitate workshops and on-the-job technical skills training to WLMA trainees.

• Support Industry Academy Lead with coordination and delivery of tools, equipment, and supplies needed for projects; providing quality control oversight; and managing crew scheduling and deployments.

• Support WLMA team with collecting project data and entering it into City Works.

Youth Development Practitioner Apprentice

• Mentor YDPA apprentice:

o Guide apprentices in achieving Work Process competencies.

o Observe and provide feedback on apprentice performance and sign off on demonstrated skills mastery.

o Teach practical soft skills, including building rapport, teamwork, and understanding company culture and procedures.

o Provide 1:1 coaching.

Additional duties:

Tool Maintenance

• Conduct or coordinate regular equipment and tool maintenance and inventory in collaboration with WLMA team.

Fleet Management

• Support Industry Academy lead with Fleet management:

o Coordinate with Fleet for vehicle maintenance

o Report issues with vehicles

Requirements:

Qualifications

• Passion for PowerCorpsPHL’s mission and people.

• Ability to adapt plans and be flexible on short notice and take initiative to problem-solve.

• Ability to establish and foster relationships with cross sector partners and to work as a part of a collaborative team.

• Ability to motivate and guide disconnected and disengaged youth and diffuse conflicts.

• Excellent self-direction and the ability to take ownership and drive responsibilities through to completion.

• Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills.

• OSHA-10 certified; OSHA-30 certified within one month of hire

• First AID/CPR Certification preferred.

• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record, insurance, and ability to drive a passenger van are required.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Successful submission of background checks.

Education and Experience

• Minimum 3 years' experience in horticulture, land care management, or a related field.

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in youth workforce development or vocational education.

• High School diploma or GED required.

• Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, education, environmental science or related field preferred.

• Experience leading and managing projects with diverse teams and subject matter experts.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position involves both classroom-based and field-based work. Typical activities include:

• Working outdoors in extreme heat, cold, or rain.

• Frequent bending and heavy lifting up to 50lbs.

• Walking on uneven ground.

• Performing the operation of power tools, hand tools and complex power equipment and perform tasks with mechanical aptitude.

• Traveling to different locations within Philadelphia on a regular basis.

• Facilitating both virtual and in-person workshops and meetings using a variety of digital platforms, physical projectors, whiteboards, flip charts and vocal projection.

• Sitting for extended periods while using a computer, typing, and participating in video conferences.
