The Lead Material Handler reports to the Warehouse Manager — Assembly and works in close daily coordination with the Planner/Scheduler and Production Data Specialist.
Core Responsibilities:
Floor Direction & Team Coordination:
- Serve as the most senior Material Handler on the Assembly floor — set daily work priorities, assign tasks, and coordinate the team’s efforts against the production schedule.
- In the absence of the Warehouse Manager, direct the Material Handler team’s work and ensure the warehouse operates safely and efficiently; escalate any decisions beyond routine operations to the Warehouse Manager.
- Observe team performance and work quality; report concerns, patterns, or issues to the Warehouse Manager promptly — the Warehouse Manager owns all formal follow-up and performance action.
- Keep the Warehouse Manager informed of floor status, material shortfalls, workload bottlenecks, and any situations that require managerial attention.
- Help onboard and orient new Material Handlers to BPP procedures, D365 transactions, and site safety expectations — under direction from the Warehouse Manager.
Pick List Execution & Production Support:
- Execute pick lists released by the Planner/Scheduler in D365 against confirmed production orders — pull, verify, stage, and deliver materials to the correct assembly bay on schedule.
- Verify physical quantities and part numbers against pick list line items before staging; flag discrepancies to the Planner/Scheduler immediately rather than allowing incorrect materials to reach the floor.
- Coordinate material staging across the team — anticipate upcoming job requirements and direct pre-staging activities to prevent production delays.
- Return unused or excess materials to correct bin locations after job completion; ensure the staging area is kept clean, organized, and accurately reflected in D365.
Receiving & Goods Receipt:
- Receive incoming deliveries at the Assembly facility — verify shipments against purchase orders and packing slips, inspect for damage, and complete goods receipts in D365 accurately and promptly.
- Coordinate with the Procurement team on discrepancies between PO quantities and received quantities; report shortages or quality issues to the Warehouse Manager.
- Ensure all received materials are correctly labeled, recorded in D365, and stored in designated bin locations without delay.
Inventory Accuracy & D365 Transactions:
- Own the physical accuracy of the Assembly warehouse — materials must match D365 bin locations and quantities at all times.
- Process all inventory transactions in D365 accurately and in real time: receipts, issues, bin transfers, inventory adjustments, and returns.
- Perform cycle counts on a defined schedule and investigate bin discrepancies; report findings and resolution to the Warehouse Manager.
- Identify and report items that appear in D365 but cannot be physically located, and items physically present that are not reflected in the system.
Warehouse Organization & Safety:
- Maintain the Assembly warehouse in a safe, organized, and audit-ready condition — enforce FIFO, correct bin labeling, clear aisles, and proper storage of components.
- Conduct daily forklift and material handling equipment pre-use inspections; report defects or safety concerns to the Warehouse Manager immediately.
- Comply with all BPP safety policies and ensure fellow Material Handlers are following the same standards; report safety concerns or non-compliance to the Warehouse Manager rather than addressing them unilaterally.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum 2–3 years of material handling or warehouse experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Valid forklift certification or ability to certify within 30 days of hire; demonstrated safe forklift operation in a production or warehouse setting.
- Experience performing inventory transactions in an ERP or MRP system (D365, SAP, Oracle, Epicor, or equivalent).
- Ability to read and interpret pick lists, packing slips, purchase orders, and production documentation accurately.
- Experience providing work direction to peers or junior team members in a warehouse or production environment — formal supervisory title not required.
- Strong attention to detail — ability to verify part numbers, quantities, and bin locations accurately under time pressure.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in an active manufacturing warehouse environment.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 FnO — receiving, goods receipts, bin transfers, and inventory adjustments.
- Experience in an engineer-to-order (ETO) or custom manufacturing environment — switchgear, electrical equipment, industrial fabrication, or similar.
- Familiarity with FIFO inventory methods and bin-based warehouse management.
- Experience supporting cycle count programs and physical inventory reconciliation.
- Basic computer proficiency — able to process D365 transactions and communicate via email.
