Job Description
JOB TITLE: Night Crew Supervisor
Valley Iron is one of the largest independent, family-owned metal service centers in Central and Northern California. Since 1958, we’ve built our reputation on quality, service, and trust—moving steel efficiently and getting the job done right the first time.
We’re looking for a Night Crew Supervisor who can lead a team, keep operations running smoothly, and jump in when needed. If you can juggle priorities, solve problems on the fly, and keep things moving without breaking a sweat (or at least not showing it), you’ll fit right in.
This is a key leadership role. You’ll be expected to lead by example, treat employees fairly, and represent company values at all times—the kind of supervisor people respect and don’t avoid in the breakroom.
This is a full-time, exempt position reporting directly to the Manager and Operations Manager. You’ll help keep the night shift safe, organized, efficient, and running like a well-oiled machine (and yes, sometimes literally).
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment—because nothing gets done if safety isn’t first
- Supervise and direct night crew staff, ensuring proper coverage and keeping overtime under control
- Ensure all orders are pulled accurately—measure twice, ship once
- Oversee proper and safe loading of materials onto trucks
- Make sure all loads meet legal weight limits (no creative math here)
- Coordinate and route daily deliveries
- Prepare delivery receipts and material test reports for next-day deliveries
- Manage back orders and adjust paperwork as needed
- Track and document delivery changes from drivers in the field
- Lock and secure all equipment and the facility at the end of each shift—you’re the closer
- Assist with truck maintenance, fueling, and driver assignments
- Support hiring, training, and development of new team members
- Handle employee coaching, performance reviews, and day-to-day team support
- Participate in safety inspections and meetings (and lead at least one—your moment in the spotlight)
- Keep warehouse areas clean, organized, and efficient—organized chaos is still chaos
- Step in where needed—because no two nights are exactly the same
- Use manpower and equipment efficiently to keep operations productive and cost-effective
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work well with others
- Knowledge of carbon, stainless steel, and aluminum products
- Experience with industrial equipment and machinery
- Self-motivated, organized, and reliable
- Comfortable using computers and managing logistics
- Strong communication skills (English required; Spanish is a plus)
- 3–5 years of experience in warehouse operations, shipping, or a similar leadership role
- Forklift experience (especially with large/heavy loads) preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- 70% office, 30% outdoors—best of both worlds
- Fast-paced, active environment with varying noise levels
- Exposure to weather conditions and industrial elements
- Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs.
- On your feet most of the shift—this job comes with built-in cardio
WORKING SCHEDULE
Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Occasional half-day Saturdays as needed
