JOB DESCRIPTION
Childcare Attendant
I. JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 16 years or older.
- CPR Certified within 30 days of start date.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
- Must be able to move throughout the childcare facility freely and quickly for the safety of children.
- Physical exertion requirements include bending, stretching, reaching, and possibly lifting heavy children.
- Must be comfortable sitting on the floor and playing with children.
- Must demonstrate responsible, dependable, and professional work habits.
- Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly and efficiently in both the club's and the member's best interest.
- Must be able to demonstrate good communication skills with co-workers, members, and children.
- Must exemplify the "Mountainside Way."
- Ability to smile and greet members consistently in a friendly and sincere manner.
- Experienced in childcare and understands all related job duties.
- Successfully complete the Mountainside Training program within 30 days of starting in the position.
II. JOB-RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Attendance & Appearance
- Prompt arrival for shift: must be at station, ready to work at the scheduled time.
- Dress according to club policy — maintain a conservative, comfortable, and professional appearance.
- No loose jewelry to be worn while on shift.
Member & Child Service
- Attend to the needs of members and their children as the first priority when help is needed.
- Greet all members and their children coming in and out of the childcare area.
- Introduce yourself to all parents and children.
- Find out children's names and any special precautions.
- Give thorough tours of the childcare room to potential members.
- Clean all aspects of the childcare area, including toys.
- Interact professionally with children and parents at all times.
- Maintain a safe and fun environment by enforcing rules and redirecting inappropriate behavior using positive and calm techniques.
- Contact parents when a child cannot be calmed, is injured, excessively unruly, or ill.
- Change diapers and assist children in using bathroom facilities.
ABC / Alaris Computer Program
- Accurately check member information and verify it with the information on their card; re-file each card when finished.
- Add or change information in the computer as needed, including member notes — initial each entry or change in the computer notes, member cards, time sheets, or manager notes.
- Give out stickers.
- Ensure all parents check children in upon arrival and out upon departure.
Policies & Procedures — Parent Communication
- Explain sign-in and sign-out procedures.
- Explain security procedures — checking parent information against the child's sticker.
- "One parent rule" — the parent who checks a child in must pick them up unless otherwise specified.
- Communicate childcare hours.
- Explain payment plan options: by cash/check monthly, by the hour, or annually.
- Enforce the 1:10 staff-to-child ratio policy.
- Communicate the Food and Drink Rule.
- Inform members of Parent's Night Out availability.
- Confirm that staff are CPR certified.
Administrative & General Duties
- Learn and utilize the telephone properly; not for personal use.
- Maintain a clean and organized desk area, keeping the printer dusted and free of debris.
- Count the a.m. money and handle all money transactions (cash, checks, credit, VIP hours, etc.), noting them in the computer and on member cards.
- Follow policies on switching shifts, time-off requests, and calling in sick.
- Follow incident and emergency procedures.
- Check and replenish daily-use copies as needed.
- Read the "Read Me" communication log on Spike at the beginning of each shift and add notes as needed.
- Effectively use Paylocity to stay current on announcements and suggestions.
- Log problems and notify the Manager of situations requiring their attention.
- Write the day and date on current time sheets.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
III. OTHER
- Report directly to Department Supervisor or Department Manager.
- Performance reviews conducted annually by the Department Manager.
- Progressive disciplinary procedures — at the discretion of the Department Manager or Supervisor — include employee counseling, verbal warnings, written warnings, probation, and termination.
