JOB SUMMARY

The Warehouse Manager directs, controls, and monitors the distribution of materials and finished goods. This role oversees receiving, storage, inventory delivery, packaging, and shipping activities to ensure materials are sourced from approved vendors, accurately received against open purchase orders, properly recorded in inventory, packaged to specification, and shipped on schedule. The manager maintains material security and accountability through effective inventory control, ensures materials are available to support production schedules, and confirms finished goods are shipped according to marketing requirements. This position also establishes and updates operating methods and procedures, maintains documentation to measure departmental effectiveness and efficiency, and selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to support efficient warehouse operations.

This role requires experience leading warehouse operations, managing material handling, and applying ERP/MRP system fundamentals to support efficient team performance. The ideal Warehouse Manager drives operational efficiency and performance while creating opportunities for team learning and growth.

COLABORATION & INTERACTION

Interacts regularly with subordinate supervisors, customers, functional peers, and external stakeholders on matters involving multiple sections or business units. Builds partnerships with key contacts outside the immediate area of expertise and communicates results, recommendations, priorities, and expectations clearly across disciplines. This role may also engage with lower and senior management on issues affecting functional areas, departments, and customers. Success requires the ability to influence others in sensitive or complex situations while maintaining productive relationships and supporting desired departmental outcomes.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION

This role manages multiple sections or disciplines through subordinate supervisors and/or professional staff. It operates within established functional or departmental practices and management precedents while supporting financial performance, business planning, organizational priorities, and workforce needs. The position may oversee two or more departmental disciplines, including professional and subordinate managers, and regularly advises teams on moderately complex matters. It is also accountable for the departmental budget and for the function’s impact on business results.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

Daily Operations & Workflow

  • Oversee daily warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, material movement, picking, kitting, issuing, inventory transactions, packaging, and shipping.
  • Carry out routine operational tasks in accordance with weekly plans, production schedules, and established procedures.
  • Track unit and sub-unit performance to ensure service, accuracy, and timeliness targets are met.
  • Identify and resolve routine operational issues that could delay schedules.

Team Supervision & Task Assignment

  • Provide immediate supervision, training and professional growth pathways to a unit or group of stockroom and material handling employees.
  • Assign tasks, prioritize work, and monitor progress at frequent intervals.
  • Maintain staffing plans, work schedules, and daily assignments to meet operational requirements.
  • Spend a portion of time performing individual tasks alongside the team as required to support operations.

Process Adherence & Problem Solving

  • Direct subordinates using established policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Address issues of limited scope using defined practices where answers can be readily obtained.
  • Escalate non-routine or systemic issues to management as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable military/defense requirements.

Communication & Coordination

  • Interact daily with team members and functional peer groups such as production, planning, quality, and shipping.
  • Exchange and present straightforward operational information clearly and accurately.
  • Communicate expectations, priorities, and changes in a timely and professional manner.

Inventory & Cost Awareness

  • Support accurate material tracking, inventory integrity, and transaction discipline.
  • Provide input to managing costs related to the stockroom or sub-unit, including labor efficiency and material handling practices.
  • Assist with inventory counts, audits, and discrepancy resolution as directed.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of stockroom, warehousing, or material handling operations

Level & Impact (Manager level 2-3)

  • Receives process-driven, predetermined work assignments with moderate oversight
  • Supervises day-to-day operations of a unit or sub-unit
  • Translates functional plans into operational processes and guides execution. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may have short-term (up to a one-year) impact.
  • Meets unit performance targets on a weekly basis
  • Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations and may jeopardize overall business activities. Decisions directly impact medium-term (more than one-year) results of the team/ program/ group.
  • Provides cost input at the unit or sub-unit level
Requirements:

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 6 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience leading teams in a similar industry. Preferred qualifications include extensive warehouse experience or relevant certifications that demonstrate expertise in material handling and team development.

Experience in stockroom, warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing operations is required.

Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing or a regulated environment is preferred, including regulated shipping, parts handling, export requirements, or similar activities that demonstrate a strong understanding of materials and supply chain requirements.
