POSITION SUMMARY

If you have a passion for helping people grow, develop themselves, and better their lives and their community this opportunity is for you. The Professional Development Manager will be responsible ensuring for that students are career ready when they begin their technology industry internships and full-time jobs. Lead the professional development workshops, manage a volunteer engagement calendar and events geared toward getting students ready for the technology workforce. Additionally, this position includes assisting students with resume writing, interview preparations, and other business etiquette skills to prepare them to enter the professional world. Successful candidates will be self-starters who have a proven track record of success and can lay a strong foundation for helping young adults prepare for their careers.

Student Development

  • Work one-on-one with students on developing resumes, interview skills and professional best practices.
  • Help students develop career maps based on interests, talents and professional goals
  • Conduct career readiness workshops on topics such as interviewing, LinkedIn, professional networking, etc.
  • Manage professional development calendar and confirmation/communication of guest presenters.
  • Support national initiatives such as NPowerMATCH (mentorship program)
  • Escalate career coaching for trainees on action plans as needed.
  • Oversee mock digital interview with Talk Hiring Software and/or panel interviews with staff.

Administration

  • Document and track student records and volunteer engagement in Salesforce database.
  • Manage event planning range of activities including site visit logistics.

Team Member Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Employment Engagement Manager to support students in their career and workforce readiness. This includes assisting with preparing students for job placements, internships, and career counseling.
  • Partner with other Professional Development Managers across California to implement the professional learning management system and curriculum effectively. Share best practices and strategies to enhance the overall program.
  • Support for Alumni Engagement: Assist the Alumni Engagement Manager as needed with career development workshops, upskilling, and continuing NPower wrap-around support.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: The ability to effectively collaborate with various teams across NPower.
  • Industry Partnerships/Volunteer Management: Support partnerships with tech-industry professionals across of a range of sectors. Invite professionals into the Professional Development Days to present key topics, share insights, network, and facilitate mentorship, from experienced industry leaders.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in career services human resources, recruitment or similar or professional development field
  • Exceptional verbal communication, concise, writing and grammar skills
  • Comfort level in public speaking/hosting student workshops
  • Capacity to participate in networking and industry events where opportunities for partnerships may develop
  • A passion for helping people grow, develop themselves, and better their lives and their community
  • Strength-Based Feedback: Providing feedback that highlights strengths while offering constructive guidance for our students to improve
  • Flexibility : A willingness to listen, adapt, and work collectively to accomplish regional goals
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Comfort level in utilizing Salesforce or similar CRM program
  • Ability to achieve role deliverables with little supervision
  • Experience in working with underserved young adults or veterans a plus
