Position Overview
Swingtech is seeking a Database Administrator / Oracle DBA to support enterprise application operations and maintenance in a federal IT environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on DBA who can support production and non-production database environments, maintain data availability, troubleshoot performance issues, support backup and recovery activities, assist with patch coordination, and help ensure secure and reliable database operations.
The selected candidate will work closely with application developers, system administrators, security teams, service desk staff, infrastructure providers, and customer stakeholders to support database stability, application availability, data integrity, controlled changes, and technical documentation.
Responsibilities
- Support administration of enterprise database environments across production and non-production systems.
- Monitor database availability, performance, capacity, security, and operational health.
- Troubleshoot database issues affecting application functionality, performance, connectivity, data integrity, and availability.
- Support backup, recovery, restore validation, and outage response activities.
- Maintain scheduled and on-demand database backup procedures.
- Support database patching, version updates, vulnerability remediation, and post-change validation activities.
- Support database security, access control, account management, user permissions, and audit-related activities.
- Assist with database configuration management for application releases, new business needs, and environment changes.
- Support database-driven applications, web-based systems, middleware-connected applications, reporting interfaces, scheduled jobs, and integrations.
- Develop, maintain, or troubleshoot SQL scripts, stored procedures, database jobs, schemas, queries, and data-related application components.
- Coordinate with application, infrastructure, security, and service desk teams to resolve incidents, service requests, and operational failures.
- Support disaster recovery, continuity planning, backup validation, and recovery exercises as needed.
- Maintain documentation including database procedures, backup and recovery steps, schema information, configuration notes, performance tuning parameters, issue logs, and recurring maintenance activities.
- Follow applicable federal security, configuration management, change management, access control, and documentation requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of experience in database administration, database engineering, production database support, data platform support, or similar technical roles.
- Experience supporting production or mission-critical database environments.
- Experience with database management, backup and recovery, performance management, tuning, and availability support.
- Experience with database security, data integrity, access controls, and user/account management.
- Experience with one or more major relational database platforms such as Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar technologies.
- Experience supporting database-backed web applications, enterprise applications, reporting systems, or integration-heavy environments.
- Experience troubleshooting issues across database, application, middleware, and infrastructure layers.
- Experience developing or maintaining SQL scripts, stored procedures, scheduled jobs, queries, schemas, or related database objects.
- Ability to document technical procedures, configuration changes, issue resolutions, backup/recovery steps, and recurring support processes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
