MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school graduate or equivalent. Experience with electronic medical records preferred. Must possess a working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. Must be able to communicate in a professional manner.

Required Length and Type of Experience

One year of coding experience in an acute care setting, preferred.

Required Licensure or Certification
-
Registered health Information Administrator (R.H.I.A.), Accredited Health Information Technician (R.H.I.T.), Certified Coding Specialist (C.C.S.), Certified Professional Coder (C.P.C.), Certified Coding Associate (C.C.A.) or coding certificate from a college program required.

Required Physical and Environmental Demands

Walking, bending, lifting, spends considerable amount of time sitting at a computer terminal. Ability to read and comprehend medical records.

GENERAL SUMMARY
-
To accurately assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes based on medical record documentation. Work independently or in a group. Correctly communicating necessary information to payors in compliance with governmental rules and regulations for reimbursement purposes is high priority. Coders must have critical thinking skills.
