Job Description
Job Summary: Supervise Inmate Workers at Homestead Correctional Institution to ensure Inmate Workers accurately and efficiently view data and record the data in a Manual Image Review (MIR) program. Requires ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time by walking around area and directing Inmate Workers to ensure work is accomplished.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervise 50 inmates in a Manual Image Review (MIR) program.
- Train Inmate Workers in the tools and techniques required for the department’s operations. This training should include all applicable environmental and occupational safety standards, and the quality standards appropriate for the industry.
- Monitor work, enforce productivity standards, resolve operational problems, and implement new procedures as required.
- Tract inmate worker production rates on a daily basis.
- Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for process changes, quality audits, system enhancements, and customer facing processes and product offerings.
- Communicate program information and status to FDC, PRI, and third-party client staff.
- Be proficient and fully trained in navigating and using PRI computer systems.
- Input inmate payroll.
- Perform other assigned duties as deemed needed by Industry Manager.
- Work closely with DC personnel to ensure compliance with institution rules and regulations in the performance of shipping and receiving goods.
- Travel to Liberty for MIR verification training when necessary.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required, + 2 years supervisory experience. Some manufacturing experience helpful.
Language Skills: Good verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations necessary for daily operations.
Reasoning Ability: Demonstrates the ability to train inmates in production and clerical processes while effectively coordinating manpower and equipment to ensure efficient and organized operations.
Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill: Acquire FDC training to supervise Inmate Workers. Must have a strong working knowledge of Excel and have other basic computer skills (Word, Outlook, Teams). Ability to supervise and develop multiple Inmates. Effective time and performance management skills are essential, along with a solid understanding of safety management principles. The position also calls for the ability to foster teamwork and collaboration across the team, while maintaining a strong attention to detail in all aspects of the work.
Other Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills with effective personal time management; honest, dependable, professional, adaptable, and pleasant to work with.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to fumes or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud – the dust level is moderate.
