Avid is seeking a Director of HR and Benefits to join our Corporate team. This position will be based in our office in downtown Chicago and support HR functions across multiple states. This position is available immediately!

The Director of HR and Benefits manages the human resources and employee benefits functions for the organization, including HR strategy, payroll, employee relations, talent acquisition support, and the design and administration of benefits programs. This role is critical to supporting a distributed workforce of caregivers, field staff, administrative and corporate employees while ensuring compliance with healthcare and labor regulations specific to the home care industry.

  • Oversee recruitment and retention strategy for corporate and administrative staff and support recruitment of caregivers/field staff, including strategies to address caregiver turnover.
  • Create a compensation strategy for all field employees based on market research and pay surveys; oversee implementation of these strategies by working closely with local branch leadership and ensure it is kept current.
  • Manage weekly payroll process for field and administrative employees.
  • Oversee HRIS and payroll integration for accurate benefits and compensation data.
  • Design, implement, and manage employee benefits programs (health, dental, vision, retirement, life/disability insurance, PTO), in compliance with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators.
  • Oversee workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and leave management.
  • Provide reporting and analytics to leadership on HR metrics (turnover, cost-per-hire, benefits utilization).
  • Manage annual reporting and HR-related audits and licensing/regulatory requirements specific to home care agencies
  • Serve as escalation point for employee relations issues, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Champion employee engagement, recognition, and culture initiatives.
  • Oversee performance management processes and training programs.
  • Partner with leadership to develop and execute HR strategies aligned with organizational goals and growth plans.
  • Manage and be a resource for all employee benefits including but not limited to: Medical, Ancillary, and 401K.
  • Maintain and update employee handbooks, job descriptions, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, state-specific home care/caregiver regulations).
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, organizational development, business, or related area; relevant work experience may be a substitute

Work Experience: A minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience, with 3+ years of management/leadership experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices, including compensation, performance management, safety, hiring and employee relations; able to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience in home care, healthcare, or a similarly regulated, high-turnover industry.
  • Experience managing HR for a distributed, multi-state workforce.
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefit design, administration, and compliance (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA).
  • Experience with HRIS and benefits administration platforms, specifically Paylocity and Employee Navigator preferred, but not required.
  • Strategic thinking with hands-on execution ability
  • Discretion and sound judgment handling sensitive information
  • Data-driven decision-making
  • Ability to create a culture of diversity, inclusivity, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.

Certification: SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or CEBS certification preferred, but not required

Travel: Inter- and intra-state travel will occasionally be required for business purposes. The employee must have the ability to travel by air and auto, and a valid driver’s license issued by the state in which they work with a satisfactory driving record and proof of auto insurance.
