About This Position

The Director of Culture and Engagement oversees discipline and tiered behavior supports. Their primary responsibility is supporting a positive and safe school community in which all key stakeholders are positively engaged. This person uses data to strategically inform leadership actions, with the aim of improved outcomes for students. Reporting to the Principal, the Manager of Culture and Engagement leads with urgency and is rooted in proactive, restorative supports for students. The position acts as a direct supervisor for the recess and lunch team in addition to leading the Behavior MTSS Team.

Positive School Culture & Climate

  • Responsible for creating and implementing systems and procedures that positively impact the overall culture and climate of the school for all key stakeholders, including staff, students and families.
  • Planning and implementing school-wide events, such as assemblies, positive behavior incentives, and community building initiatives.
  • Stay current on behavior and culture trends, strategies and approaches by attending professional development that can benefit the community at large.

Recess & Lunch:

  • Design and implement strong systems and protocols to ensure the safety of students during recess and lunch for grades K-8.
  • Effectively manage and train support staff to maintain high standards of supervision and adherence to safety procedures.

Behavior Support

  • Investigate serious behavior incidents when necessary, ensuring Namaste policies and consequences are fully aligned with the CPS Student Code of Conduct.
  • Host weekly Friday after school reflection for students not meeting Namaste’s school expectations.

Communication & Engagement

  • Proactively engaging in transitions by remaining outside the hallway to foster community with students and staff, while ensuring that all students meet transition expectations.
  • Communicate with families on a weekly basis regarding student misconduct, behavior supports or re-entry meetings as needed.
  • Support family engagement through events, workshops, awards, and activities throughout the school-year.
  • Participate as a member of the Shared Leadership Team, supporting school-wide events and initiatives

Data Analysis

  • Create and maintain systems for school-wide behavior data tracking. Provide data reports at weekly team meetings
  • Review school-wide data to identify trends and determine where additional classroom or student support might be needed.
