Job Summary
The Information Technology Support Specialist is responsible for providing technical support to employees, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and FSBT policies related to information security, and maintaining the organization’s data and telecommunications networks. All business units depend on this position to provide accurate information in a timely manner and to troubleshoot users’ problems as they arise. Technical problems need to be resolved expeditiously. Problems may require investigation to consider alternative courses of action. Some of the more difficult aspects of this position include:
- Remaining technically current
- Working with users to diagnose the specific nature of their problems
- Resolving technical problems
- Handling concurrent projects/activities
- Allocating resources to meet job demands

SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Information Technology User Support Services
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve information technology user support-related issues.
- Remain accessible to business units.
- Address user questions accurately and as quickly as possible with the scope of stated priorities.
- Effectively research system problems identified by users or provided through system flags and resolve the system problems by selecting the best of alternative courses of action.
- Proactively develop procedures/methods, etc., to help prevent any problems from recurring.
- Maintain a database of user/network/software problems and their resolutions. Consistently develop and maintain documentation of support calls.
- Demonstrate effective methods of prioritization of requests for assistance. Accurately set up and maintain users’ appropriate levels of security.
- Ensure all end users can log in to the Network.
- Orient new users to their hardware, software, and telecommunications products.
- Train users with the knowledge they need to access and use the network at a basic level.
- Assist end users in blocking and accepting emails flagged for security issues.
Information Technology Desktop Support Services
Install, Configure, and service the desktop computer hardware and software, printing hardware and support, and telecommunications hardware and
- Quickly and accurately install end users’ desktop computers, printers, and telecommunications hardware and software.
- Update and maintain desktop computer operating systems and applications for all UFS business units.
- Effectively manage system software updates and patches for security and other purposes.
- Provide all internal and remote support for desktop computers, laptop computers, tablets, printers, and telecommunications equipment for all UFS business units.
- Maintain and monitor all aspects of desktop systems and their network connectivity health.
- Prevent foreseeable desktop downtime or service interruptions.
- Protect the copyright of all software and licenses from infringement. Monitor desktops for unapproved software. If identified, record and remove from the desktop.
- Troubleshoot and repair all desktop hardware and software issues.
- Using the Endpoint Detection and Response system, monitor the security of the Desktop systems for malware, viruses, spyware, and unusual system activity.
- Provide support to management responsible for business continuity planning and vendor management.
Assist with Network Administration
Assist the Network Engineer in managing network equipment and systems.
- Assist in network hardware upgrades
- Assist in installing and upgrading all application servers’ operating systems.
- Work with the department to document all network hardware.
- Assist in identifying and addressing all LAN/WAN equipment problems quickly and effectively.
- Assist with installing and upgrading the operating systems on all application servers.
- Help prevent foreseeable system downtimes/service interruptions
- When the system goes down, the backup Network Engineer should restore it to all end users as soon as possible.
- Recommend system, application, and security enhancements and changes to improve performance.
- Assist with system security as needed.
Education
- Requires a 2-year technical degree or certificate in an IT or technical field.
- Previous computer network installation and maintenance experience is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
- Work experience must include extensive exposure to and the ability to practically apply knowledge in: the management of both cloud and on-premise information systems including computer applications, and software and hardware systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively, manage time carefully, work effectively under pressure and time deadlines, analyze problems (not just symptoms) propose reasonable and complete solutions, make logical decisions, carry out decisions made, and follow up with feedback where appropriate.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions.
- Knowledge of networking services and common networking protocols.
- Computer proficiency and understanding of various types of hardware.
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with Managers and coworkers.
Certifications/Licenses are a plus:
- One year of experience supporting systems integral to effective network performance – including PCs, printers/multifunction devices, telephones, and providing network administration and support. Previous experience with computer network installation and maintenance is a plus.
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
- CompTIA A+ certification or Network+
