PQC is currently seeking a Registered Nurse – Family Health Clinic
Work Environment:
- Monday-Friday between the hours of 0600-1800 based on clinic/patient needs
Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies and treatments, as appropriate.
- Knowledge of preventive health schedules, disease management and population health principles, and education methods.
- Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use
- Knowledge of the administrative requirements for pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, including proper documentation of patient’s condition and disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
- Perform physical exam and health histories. Assesses patients, including the ability to assess/evaluate telephonically.
- Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness
- Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
- Prescribes and communicates treatment plans in accordance with established clinic protocols.
- Telephone and in-person assessment/evaluation includes the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, homecare) and follow-up care as required.
- Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.
- Arranges for procedures and performs telephone follow-up, as appropriate.
- Administers medications, performs wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
- Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare professionals.
- Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
- Makes referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.
- Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.
- Utilize the nursing process in an effective and time sensitive manner IAW standard of care.
- Participate in the peer review process.
- Provides health promotions, counseling, and education.
- Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations. Recognizes medical/trauma emergencies and responds appropriately. Initiates CPR if required. Assists medical team in administering advanced cardiac life support measures when necessary.
- Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
- Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word Processing, data entry and automated medical records.
- Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical decisions.
- Set-up, operate, and monitor hospital medical devices such as EKG units, oxygen analyzers.
- Ensures medication/supplies are replenished.
- Performs/assists with procedures such as bladder catheterizations, pulse oximetry, oxygen administration, nebulizer treatments, EKGs, phlebotomy, and other clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established protocols.
- Provides clinical oversight of all paraprofessionals involved in the provision of therapeutic treatments.
- Ensures proper documentation and coding of procedures and treatments.
- Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed.
- Provides relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement.
- Participates in customer service initiatives, quality projects, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
Qualifications:
- Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Graduate from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Experience
- Minimum of two years of outpatient clinical nursing experience
- License
- Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted Registered Nursing license to practice nursing in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Misc
- Possess a valid state driver’s license
- Possess, or be able to obtain, a background screening
- Working knowledge of the military health care system including TRICARE health benefits, or a working knowledge of the principles of fee-for-services, preferred provider network and managed care/HMO organizations is highly valued
- Excellent oral communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues
- Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both Written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
- Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with established guidelines.
- Contributes to professional environment using appropriate leadership skills.
